Video signal cutting in and out

Ok so about a year ago I was having this issue where the video signal was cutting in and out randomly, it never happens when gaming and it only does this when left to idle for a period of time. I fixed this problem by doing a clean install and have not experienced the issue since.

Now a year later I randomly decide to do a clean install because I figured that would be best especially for 24h2 and now I'm experiencing the same issue yet again.

I'm thinking it's a driver issue at this point but I have done two clean OS installs so far. One yesterday and one today and it's still doing it.

Everything is updated, windows updates, all drivers, bios it's driving me insane. It has to be a software issue and not hardware because like I said I fixed it and had zero issues for more then a year.

Can anyone help? Has anyone ran into this issue before?

I should also add that I use hdmi and am going to try a new cable. I will also try uninstalling GPU drivers with DDU and then reinstall see if that helps.

Like there is no signal or like the monitor turns off?
Check your energy saving settings. Maybe it sets the monitor on standby after x minutes.

Do the "wiggle cable" test.
But yes it is most likely a failing cable.
If it was a Driver issue, it generally would state that the GPU driver crashed and restarted.

It will randomly cut in and out and won't stop until I reset the pc. I will double check but I don't think that's the cause, it starts when I let it idle but when I come back it will continue to cut in and out no matter what i do until I reset the pc

Thanks, I will start troubleshooting within the next 24hrs and I may aswell start with the basics.

Try changing the video driver. Sounds like windows auto install

Something like this can happen if your screen settings exceed HDMI cable capability. HDMI cables often have false specs or can get damaged over time.

So try lowering Hz a bit or changing colour depth from 10bit to 8bit. Or from full RGB 4:4:4 to 4:2:0. HDR needs tons of bandwidth that many cables can’t handle.

It can also be caused by faulty drivers what can be caused by Windows.

I'm using a rocketfish 8k ultra high speed hdmi cable that bought 2 or 3 years ago, maybe it's a faulty cable I don't know but I think it should be up to par.

I have like 3 HDMI cables from amazon with fake HDMI certificate (bar code can’t be scanned) that cause random 1s black screen on my 4K display.

Try 1080p 60Hz no HDR to be sure it’s not related to bandwidth.

I'm very warry about fakes on Amazon so things like this I always buy from credible retailers or just strait from the source.

Now I'm curious because I do have windows set at 4k 120Hz with HDR
