CR 2032 battery lifespan desktop pc
Hi I was wondering what is the average time one replaces a CR 2032 CMOS battery for a desktop PC, I own an average PC as follows -

Intel i5 10400F CPU, Nvidia 3060 12GB, 16 GB DDR 4 dual chaneel 2133MHz, 2TB SSD, 600 Watt gold PSU corsair, 1080p monitor

I usually replace (the CR 2032 CMOS battery) every 4 years but was wondering if that is a good estimation?

I have only allowed my system to become fully un-powered due to a 3-day power outage but other than that, it has always been juicing at the wall socket and this battery I got with my MOBO back in 2017 so they can last a very long time if you do not unplug the PC or lose total power (this ASRock battery is not a name brand but does come from Japan).

I believe in long storage situations, they can last from 1 month - 3 months (perhaps longer depending) or so but I personally never tested. :chirp:

if the pc is on, or the psu is always plugged in and never switched off, it will last 10+ years

if the pc is unplugged, or the board left without external power, it may only last a few years
It's variable.

Depends on if you bought a battery that's not very good. Some last longer than others. Meaning like odd named batteries from dollar stores, etc...

As mentioned if your pc is plugged in then the battery will last much longer.

Should last longer than 4 years.

thx for the info everyone
I've never replaced one of those. Are they easy to replace?
I do power off my PC now so I'm assuming it'll die eventually.

Leave the PSU on, it's a mere trickle, most boards you simply remove the GPU, but I have seen boards that can be accessed without moving anything or when using the PCIe x8 lane, like I am, which is lower, I can just pop mine out.

No thanks. I'd rather completely power it off for a handful of reason.
I used to do that a few decades ago and my battery never died, but I'm sure they die more quickly nowadays.

Is it as easy as popping the old one out and popping the new one in?

To each their own and your opinion/method is valid - Yep easy as popping it out in most cases, just make sure the PSU is turned off first (which you already have covered).

Good to know! I'll have to try that sometime soon.
some oem boards do not have replaceable cmos battery
soldered on the board, not in a socket

Yes, like my HP convertible laptop.
most laptops have them soldered on, or a rechargeable button cell battery on a plug
