So 7800X3D is still quite safe bet currently, especially considering all the problems that Intel is having with their 13th and 14th gen.
Gaming performance of it is right up there with best Intel 14th gen.
Technically A.M.D. announced it for this month at computex, and plans to release it this month....
On the 31st.[computercity.com].
That's kinda fudging the numbers a bit in my opinion, but launch won't be delayed. We have sample pictures[www.tomshardware.com] and reports of retailers getting inventory[videocardz.com].
Only thing left to do is to wait for the independent reviews that don't benchmark the 5900xt using an rx 6600 and see where the dust settles after the early adopters sell off their old components secondhand. Maybe hope for some newegg shell shockers.
Those who are patient and live in a relevant area might wait for Black Friday to get some steep discounts on all of the stuff, including possibly a Battlemage G.P.U. if you're planning on being lower down the stack. No later than Cyber Monday though if this is your upgrade cycle year, 'cause then otherwise you're just stuck in the loop of waiting infinitely.
So if your current system doesn't suit you at all or you NEED a new platform then you can jump on an upgrade but if it is and you are willing to wait then you might want to wait for the 9950X3D and upgrade with that.
I think ddr5 6000mhz c30 is a safe bet too. And that likely in 2027 the base ram frequency will of increased to the 6000mhz or so point? What is it now 4800mhz or 5200mhz? Todays a good time.
I also find the comments about "proper upgrade path towards the future" hilarious. yes you'll get rehashed chips with minor improvements but profit-ejaculating prices.
I think these people are not aware that am6 releases in 2026. you are not going to see a similar situation like am4 where you could opt for 1800x and then upgrade to the fantastic 5800x3d on the same platform. that will not happen again.
Better than intel. Amd know people want a repeat of the 5800x3d. Amd are happy were happy screw intel were happy. In 2027 amd will drop a banger of a chip. Likely a good 50% better than the 7800x3d. Why would it not drop into an x670e? Theres no reason why not when amd had slides saying 2027+ for am5. Am6 has no slides or releaae date.
50% faster than 7800x3d on the same tsmc node? 5800x3d compared to 5800x delivered a 15% performance uplift and you think amd is going to deliver a 50% performance uplift with rehashed zen5? not even 7800x3d compared to 5800x3d delivered such insane performance uplift.
and don't quote me a single game in which both x3d chips were 40% faster. that doesn't change the average.
and am6 and zen6 will release nonetheless. with probably great performance uplift because by then intel will offer decent competition.
