You can't charge them that way....looked up details as I don't remember the specifics as I don't own an Xbox controller but remember my brother talking about it ages ago

Which rechargeables? Just get another pair and you will always be on the ready.

I use eneloop AA rechargeables - they last *much* longer than the standard ones....

xbox controllers do not use rechargeable batteries by default

you need the ms rechargeable kit, or an aftermarket battery with its charger

be sure to get the correct style
the orig non bt, and 2nd gen with micro are different from the x/s with share button and usb c

the battery cover is different, keys in different places

imho, use a usb battery bank to run the controller without its own batteries

Xbox Elite Controllers Series 2 do, in fact, use rechargeable batteries by default, and indeed, it's the only option.

If you're using an elite controller from before 11/4/2019 or the Xbox Peasant Controler, then no rechargeable for you.
Don't use AA batteries.
Buy a high MAH sealed battery pack with a recharge station. They usually ship with 2 battery packs.

AA rechargeable would only output maybe 1.3-1.4 volts instead of 1.5

duracell rechargeable batteries are fine enough

No they are not. All AA rechargeables don't hold up like a recharge pack.
You will notice this when using them, that even a full charge of AA don't give that much plattime. A sealed pack that is around 2200-3000 Mah would fair much better.

Which Xbox controller is it exactly?

Overall, they won't recharge while in the controller.

most of the xbox controller rechargeable packs i have seen use nimh/nicd aaa cells
2x of those in series can be charged using only a resistor to limit charge current and overcharged to 2.5v/cell without hurting the them, they just drop back to 1.2v/cell at load

they need to put the charge controller in the pack and fit it in the slot for the 2x aa cells along with all the 2x cells and output connections and charge port

standard rechargeable aa cells would be better, but much less convenient

on mine i soldered in a lipo pack, and charge board and 3v buck board, so it uses the xbox usb port to charge it
it has about 10 hour play time between charges
