AMD Overlay not showing when I launch a game

Overlay for what exactly?

Have you inspected all the AMD Adrenaline settings?

Have you disabled Windows Updates ability to handle Drivers?

Have you wipe out your chipset and gpu drivers with DDU app in safe mode so you can ensure they are fresh /clean installed

Now that you mention it, I can't seem to get the in-game overlay to work, either. I always run the app on my secondary monitor instead of using overlays, though.

What is it even for? Just an overlay for all your GPU related info?

You can also use MSI Afterburner + RiveTumer (RTSS) as well as the Xbox Gamebar

If you want a solid well informed light weight option use GPU-Z and click the Sensors tab

it lets you change various settings or view performance metrics on the fly.

~ Other Game Experience Adjustments: Radeon Anti-Lag, Radeon Chill, Radeon FRTC, RSR, AFMF, FSR, Frame Gen, etc.

open adrenalin software, click the cog icon on the top right, then go to preferences. make sure in-game overlay is enabled. then go into shortcuts and set your hotkey. if that doesn't work then I would try using DDU or AMD Cleanup Utility, uninstall the drivers and do a fresh install of AMD software/drivers.

Its working for me on two different systems:

5950x/6900xt
2700k/6500xt

Both are running the second most recent driver (havent updated to the brand new one that just hit yet).


Does it affect just one game or all?
Does it persist past rebooit?
Have you disabled the overlay in Radeon Settings?
Have you tried a global settings default and then reset things as desired, checking if any one setting breaks things?
Have ya tried uninstalling/reinstalling?

Yes probably the amd software got reset back to defaults meaning you will simply have to go enable the performance monitor overlay is all

Just use DDU to perform a 1000% Clean Driver uninstall and reinstall the latest supported drivers for your card.

When installing the driver remove Ethernet / Wifi as Microsoft likes to try to install the drivers for you & this is what leads to issues like the one you are having.

If you wipe using DDU I would also ensure to download + install latest Motherboard Chipset as well from either Intel or AMD depending on what you have.

Yes, I have the issue but it’s random for me. Sometimes Radeon chill works and sometimes doesn’t. Seems to be related to MSI afterburner for me. If I turn other overlay on first, then AMD one won’t work.

I didn’t test it for long. Resetting PC sometimes help.

It could be drivers problem or Windows problem. Recent Windows updates were something else.

So guys first thank you all for your answers, just fixed the problem after I used the AMD Cleanup tool and installed the 25.12.1 again on my System, now the Overlay is back and Chill and other stuff are working finally correctly. Have a good new week.

You shouldn't have those enabled at the same time. Use one or the other. However you disable all Overlays for MSI AB+ RTSS and still have MSI run in background for various monitoring reasons.

However AMD users really shouldn't have any need for MSI AB as the Adrenaline and Ryzen Master can handle such things

One thing anyone who actually cares about their PC needs to do is disable Driver Updates for Windows Updates so your GPU Driver doesn't magically get changed without your input or permission and thus often times having any of its settings getting reset back to default
