GTX 780, vs PS4,
Curently have a 660ti and want to get prepared for the next gen titles. Next month they are going to drop the price on the 780 to 500$ becasue of the 780ti. They will also be giving away Assassins Creed:Black Flag, Splinter Cell Blacklist and Batman Arkham Origins. The thing is im going to need to upgrade my power supply as well to handle the new GPU putting me at 600$+. So now the question is should I get PS4 for 400$ or spend 600$+ on the upgrade. Not really sure what the next gen consoles GPU specs are compaird to a 780 so id thought id get some insight.

Considering that PS4 unlike PS3 will basicly be PC architecture I doubt there will be many games that would be exclusive only to PS4. Sooner or later they cave in for the call of money and release PC version.

I hope thats the case. Id love for the whole console exclusive ♥♥♥♥ to be over. Then this wouldn't even be a question lol

The PS4 or XBone aren't even gonna have that many games at launch anyways, unless you got money to follow a trend. Get the 780 and a nice psu now that they're on sale. There's so many to choose from right now and at great prices. Get a PS4 later when it's actually viable with an expanded library and it's blu-ray/dvd features and future 4k capability make it a potential buy anyways. Be great to watch movies on big screen tv and play a couple niche games later on. The 780 or a 770 which is a better value IMHO, will get you a smooth foundation for BF4, Titanfall and especially Witcher 3.

I like this route. This was along my lines of thought. This is most likely what ill do. How do you think it will handle multiple monitors?

Don't EVER get a console. I have a 780, and i find it disgraceful that your trying to compare the 780 (a Titan LE) to a budget, cheap console. The ps4s GPU is basically a 7850, or a gtx 650- which is an extremely low-end card.

Calm down there buddy, im not comparing the two, im just trying to get some insight since i dont have a 780 and dont know how well the consoles GPUs are. And like i stated above, The biggest reason why i was thinking of a console is for the exclusives that the PC doesnt get. Like Kingdom Hearts, God Of War, Ratchet and Clank, The Last Of Us, or Destiny. But if the 780 can blow these consoles out of the water for the same price ill just upgrade the PC and wait for the price drop and exclusives to release and then just jump on that then.

I have to agree with Taythegreenman and say that the exclusives for the PS4 is worth the price alone. Uncharted, God of War, Gran Turismo are worth the price IMO (subjective). The fact is that there will be games that will never grace the PC and no Titan or GTX 780TI will change that. The elititst view that many take on the forums are silly because just as console players miss out on many PC games, even more so do PC players miss out on what we deem as dedicated hardcore games. What we're finding is that many PC games are actually making the transition to consoles. Yes consoles will have lower reolution and less textures, but for most people it may be good enough.

Get a Emulator and a Blu-Ray drive. Buy your exclusives on disc and use them in the PC just like a PS4. Maybe you can even buy them online unless PSN will deliberately block machines with PC hardware from buying and downloading games?

Try that now with a PS3 game and a console emulator. See if you can (on PC) buy a PS3 game, download to the PC and play with a emulator?

Console emulators are legal as long as they have not somehow infringed copyright. It is possible to make a legal console emulator at least. I assume that people who do it do it the "right" way to keep it legal.

I know some can work with discs so the only question remains can you get the same online content.

I may be out of the loop so please correct me if I am wrong. I know there is a Wii emulator, but is there a PS3 and 360 one that I am unaware of? As far as I know they're none that work. So if they are please point me in the right direction because that would be some great news.

If your gonna go multi-display, then it's best to get the 780. Reason being that you need 3gb vram, at least if your going with one card. The 780 has 3gb off the bat and the muscle to handle it. Whereas the 770 comes in 2gb and 4gb. The 770 2gb would be fine for single display but the 770 4gb is around $400, 780 is around $500. Unless you want to sli, the 780 is the better value in this case. I would go with a single 780 over sli though, seeing that most games aren't optimized to take full advantage of it. Also, look into EVGA's step up program if you don't already know.

I got a PS3 also and The Last of Us, G.O.W series, Uncharted series, Tales series, ICO, Shadow of Colossus and Dragon's Dogma are awesome. So many memories and revolutionary games. Before anybody take's it wrong, think about how a guy driving around in a custom built car or motorcycle thinks of us in whatever factory made vehicle we drive. Is it stupidity or convenience you bought it? Don't be judgemental, be mindful.

I believe there have been working emulators as long as there have been working compilers.

I think you just need to go and take a look in the internet. I don't own any PS3 discs so I have no reason or way to go and find and test one for you. Yet I will say with confidence that yes there are working emulators.

Well, i went to Best Buy today to look around and they had a PS4 console to try out. So far, i feel like ive had a better picture/frame rate with my 660Ti. Dont get me wrong it looks good, but not a major step up from the PS3. Ill be getting it later after the games i want are out, upgrade my power supply and go up to the 780 and play all the goodies coming out.

Don't know if anyone has mentioned it, but TotalBiscuit did a good piece on PS4 / XBoxOne performance recently:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i0Rmyvi9wew&feature=c4-overview&list=UUy1Ms_5qBTawC-k7PVjHXKQ

As others have said above, PS4 will be 1080p at the beginning, but most likely drop with time. XBone however appears to be sub 1080 from the start. With 4k on the (distant) horizon, yes consoles will, at least in the resolution department, be rapidly outgunned. They will of course still be a cheaper option from an initial outlay perspective, if not over time (licensing fees).

I am happy that we at least have a jump in tech that we can benefit from for the next year or so

The days of Consoles pushing PC hardware at launch are over. The New consoles are already launching with sub par parts that are only going to hold pc development back farther then what the PS3 and Xbox 360 did.

My system right now after I upgrade to the i7 I have on my desk at home will carry me over for at least the next 5 years.

i5 2500k 4.5GHZ OC, 32GB DDR3, Galaxy GTX670 4GB SLI, MSI P67A-GD55 Mobo, 128GB SSD, Barracuda Green 1.5TB HDD is what im currently running right now. Maybe in a few years once the 800 series GPU drops I may upgrade.

mid-end not "extremely low-end". "Don't EVER get a console". Why? So you like missing out on great playstation games then? To each our own then.

PS4 and a PC all the way. Sorry, I'm sure they will be a lot of exclusives games to PS4 and many that will be only on PC and PS4 and not Xbone. Those first party games will never see the light of day on PC that just a fact unless Sony becomes a servies instead of hardware. Become something of the like of steam that offers Playstation games to smart phones, tablets, and PCs.

Shocked to see this question on Steam boards, of all places. The "next gen" consoles are already sub-par before they're even released. If you want sub-1080P games often running at 30 fps, get a PS4. If you like 1080P or higher and 60fps or higher, with better textures, stick with your PC. #pcgamingmasterrace

I wont be getting either of the consoles cause i prefer my gaming PC,
but out of the 2 the PS4 is the only one that can play 1080p at 60fps. xbox one can only manage it by lowering the resolution of the textures and turning features off, just so you know.
