premium MSI laptop with miniLED
Less than 2 years ago I bought a budget gaming laptop from a small company, and just a couple months after the one-year warranty expired, the screen developed a terrible defect worse than a dead pixel. Two white lines appeared near the middle of the screen. I would like to now make up for it by buying a high end gaming laptop. I would like a 4K miniLED monitor at least 17" in diagonal measurement. Unfortunately, there are only 2 that are advertised, and the one that I want is unavailable. Check out this beauty, the MSI Stealth 17Studio: https://xoticpc.com/collections/msi-laptops/products/msi-stealth-17studio-a13vi-017us

If that one continues to be unavailable, I will have to go with the MSI Titan GT77 HX: https://xoticpc.com/collections/msi-laptops/products/msi-titan-gt77hx-13vi-042us

I have read or viewed 4 in-depth professional reviews for the Titan and the consensus is that it is excellent, and there has been no mention of screen tearing, despite the strange decision to omit G sync, and none of the reviews have even mentioned that G sync was absent.

I am hesitant to buy the Titan because:
-In the comments, some gamers insist that the omission of G sync is a dealbreaker.
-The chassis is less attractive than the Stealth.
-A few years ago, I was grossed out by the Japanese movie, "Attack on Titan." There was so much gore and the director decided to just show it all. I watched it on Thanksgiving and I couldn't eat after that. I'm concerned that every time I think about the name of the laptop, I will remind myself of that movie.

I guess what I'm saying is that I need help with the G sync issue. For the chassis, I can pretend that I'm looking at it like I look at Jennifer Lopez. She has a beautiful, large rear end with the perfect skin tone, and that makes her hot, just like the laptop has a big colorful rear end that gets hot. For the name, I can call it the GT77 instead of the word that precedes it.

Is this serious or...?

Just came here to say that screen tearing can exist whether you have GSYNC, FreesSync, or Vsync on.

It's always going to be less likely with V-sync, but it's still possible due to driver issues and the fact that some games simply have poor engines or use questionable rendering and physics techniques (like using the framerate for physics).

In games like that, you will need to turn Vsync on or get your eyes burned by tearing.

In typical professional work, you won't be concerned with high frames unless you are testing a driver for games or something -- but then you would be using an external monitor anyway because they have better scalers and allow custom resolution.

I see Gsync or other tech like it a plus on laptop displays, since I usually use an external display....so I may be biased. Would I pay a premium for it? More than likely no, unless I did not have any plans to use an external display(s) at any point.

But if you have the money and believe it to be worth the price difference, that is a personal choice. Check on Reddit about those laptops too, someone may have checked both and have comments on it.

You can also look for Notebookcheck reviews: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MFpPzog3ky8

IMO NotebookCheck is the best place to find information, unless a model hasn't been released outside America. There is also a large database of most models (but never all due to variations even within the same year).

Why waste time and space telling people what it doesn't do? that list would just go on, and on, and on, and on, and on, and on, and on, and on, and on, and on.....get the point? Only mention what IS there. If it's NOT mentioned it should be obvious it is NOT there

If you have the money Gsync/FreeSync is nice but if you are going to link Laptop to an external display they often don't have an output that supports sync so either G-Sync nor Freesync will work.
I did read the review from notebookcheck, thanks. Reviews should be balanced, ideally. Ubiquitous PWM was mentioned but the frequency was felt to be high enough to not be an issue. I would not be using an external monitor. One commenter stated that there was constant noise emitted by the monitor but there had been no confirmation of that.

I just realized that the link is for the Stealth 17 Studio. Thanks for the link. The laptop looks great. Hopefully it will be available soon.
