Looking to get a new tv
I've started to play games lately on my current tv but am running into a issue I can't do anything about. Whenever I move the camera around, the screen will dim/darken until I stop moving the camera then it returns to normal. I looked it up and seems to have something to do with microdimming or something like that. Maybe because my tv is 10 years old, I don't have any menu options to fix the issue other than reduce the 'sharpness' option which also ruins the image quality a bit.

So what I'm looking for is a 27 inch tv that's good for gaming that doesn't have that issue. Just googling for one won't guarantee the tv's listed won't end up with the same issue so I wanted the opinion of others. Any good tv anyone could recommend?

Good luck finding a proper dumb TV.

Under no circumstances allow it any network connection. Or get fancy and pihole it.

Just enable instant response "game mode" and maybe fancy stuff like HDR, and then never touch the settings again.

If you want 27inch you might as well just get a monitor that is 27inch since they are more popular in such sizes, tv's are 40+ inch these days if you want decent quality.

I would just replace it with at least a 40 inch TV with a better quality panel, or just get a proper gaming monitor as they're generally better for gaming than TVs in the same price range due to higher refresh rates and lower response times.

I could probably go with one up to 40 inch maybe, I just don't have much space in my room for a larger one. And call me old school, but I didn't even know you could connect regular game consoles like a ps4/5, etc, to monitors (forgot to mention that in my first post). I'd still prefer a regular tv for console gaming though. If I went with a 40 inch, what would be a good one?

My tv's menu options are extremely limited and it doesn't have the option for 'gaming mode' or anything else people suggested during my searches through google.

Your TV is just that old, that's why. TVs didn't start getting as good as monitors for gaming until the last few years because console needed it, anything older than 10+ years often lacks instant response modes and other "gaming" features.

There are plenty of them now that have it but the vast majority of TVs are "smart" which are just a security liability as they're easily hacked, and people with models that have any kind of cameras have been watched by hackers and blackmailed, often because they were recording people when they were doing private things in the comfort of their own home. Then there's also the junk that the manufacturer puts on it by default, sometimes a bunch of telemetry and ads as well which is why a pihole is recommended.

If you can't fit a 40" TV then I would just look at 32" monitors because they would be the same size and overall better for the price, without a bunch of extra junk and risks.

I have an LG C2, been fantastic so far

120hz, Freesync Premium and Gsync built in, lots of other gaming features built in too. Worth a look at

It sounds like the issue you're experiencing is related to local dimming or a similar feature on your older TV. For gaming, you'll want a TV that doesn't have aggressive dimming features or at least one where you can disable them. Additionally, you'd benefit from a TV with low input lag and good response time.

Given that you're looking for a 27-inch option, which is more commonly a monitor size, I’d recommend considering a gaming monitor instead. Many gaming monitors are designed to avoid issues like the one you're facing and offer features like higher refresh rates, faster response times, and better color accuracy.

Here are a few good options to consider:

1. LG 27GP850-B - This is a 27-inch monitor with an IPS panel, 165Hz refresh rate, and G-Sync compatibility. It has excellent color accuracy and low input lag, making it great for gaming.

2. ASUS TUF Gaming VG27AQ - A 27-inch monitor with a 1440p resolution, 165Hz refresh rate, and Adaptive-Sync technology. It has good HDR performance and no dimming issues.

3. Samsung Odyssey G7 - While a bit more expensive, this 27-inch monitor offers a 240Hz refresh rate, 1440p resolution, and Quantum Dot technology for vibrant colors and deep blacks.

These monitors won’t suffer from the same dimming issues as your old TV and are built with gaming in mind. If you're set on getting a TV instead, I'd recommend looking into smaller 4K TVs from reputable brands like Sony or LG, where you can disable any local dimming features in the settings. Just make sure to check reviews specifically for gaming performance to avoid similar problems.

I'm more than happy to go with a monitor if it means I don't have to worry about the dimming issue anymore. Like r.linder mentioned, it might be better to go with a monitor since they're mostly designed with gaming in mind. And I think I'm gonna up it to a 32 inch monitor instead. The ones you listed seem pretty nice, but would you happen to know of any good 32 inch ones as well? As long as the monitors don't cost over a grand, I'd be willing to consider getting one.

hmm odd. I thought at first you were talking about local dimming which is present in mini-led TVs but apparently it's something else and since you got no control over it, it makes sense to want a new tv.

at 27 inches there are good monitors tho. if you are only playing games and consuming content like movies or tv shows, then oled is currently unparalleled.

what resolution do you want that 27" screen to be? 1080p? 1440p? 2160p? are you comfortable with a screen that can burn out? do you want a traditional lcd? what content are you consuming on a daily basis?
