Now if it's 2nd or 3rd gen or older then yes it might not work past the GT/GTX 7xx series
Some kept saying it was because it required UEFI but I have used GTX 10, 16 and even RTX 30 series on non UEFI Motherboard with PCIE 2.0 no problems
you said it was a dell or oem, that does not have a bios update, then the only way would be to use a 2nd gpu, or its onboard with the dedicated
and after it boots and loads drivers it will work
you can set windows to use the onboard or weak as a secondary display for browser/chat or whatever else
The only thing you should know is, if you are running an ancient CPU like Core 2 or AMD Phenom. do not install the latest NVIDIA drivers (anything 555.85 and newer) as they require the POPCNT instruction
