Windows and Chrome Font looks awful
The font on my pc looks terrible, readable but pixelated, really bad on the windows setting pages. Nothing is very sharp at all.

I have a 4070 super FE and a 31 inch LG 1440p 166hz gsync monitor. Nvidia settings on recomnded and visual quality of windows is performance, I have tried the clear font app. Its just irritating me

but I have a theory why this is and its this I need a second opinion on.

Before this monitor I had a 27 inch monitor before I got the 4070 super FE. Is it possible that everything looks worse because the monitor is bigger and the resolution is the same, so its stretched and looks worse because of it?

It might be less sharp due to the size increase, but it shouldn't be making it "irritating" and it certainly shouldn't be pixelated.

For reference, a 1440p display at 32" would have the same PPI as a 1080p display at 24", and that's basically the absolute standard. Yours is ever so slightly higher being 31". At 27", a 1440p display would only be 17 PPI greater. So unless the majority of the displays in the world look "irritating" to you and unless your previous one already looked borderline pixelated, then it's not the size change contributing to this. At least not entirely.

Is Windows and Chrome the only place this occurs? That may be a clue.

What exact display is it? I wonder if you have a BGR sub-pixel layout instead of the common RGB. If this is it, you would want to tweak, not disable, clear type to clear this up.

Otherwise I'd be a bit lost.

Seems to be a standard RGB sub pixel layout so my guess was wrong (unless your previous display was BGR and you have clear type tuned for that from before, but I'm presuming no).

The review on RTINGS[www.rtings.com] does say "Unfortunately, due to the relatively low pixel density, the text clarity is just okay" but I'd be shocked if this is it. There's a big difference between "just standard" and "infuriatingly bad" in my eyes, but again, maybe it looks bad to you.

Silly question maybe, but you are running in native resolution, yes?

Edit: It might actually just be the panel specifically, and not the size/PPI. The RTINGs review further covers that text isn't great on it in the next sentence (I took the above summary from the Google result description).

"There are some noticeable issues on curved edges and diagonal lines even after running the ClearType wizard on Windows (top photo)."

The text is rough around the edges and it is doing my head in frankly lol I never ever noticed this on my old monitor.

Yep monitor and windows are 1440p

make sure desktop res is set to native
disable windows display scaling (100%)
and disable cleartype, same as for win10

Are there any 1440p monitors you would recommend

any around 27-30in will have about the same ppi as 22-24in 1080p display

if its over 100hz, make sure it supports gsync/freesync
