I gave up after 6 months of asking Asus to provide a local backup but since they never did I looked for alternatives. Software I use is completely free and you can save profiles locally.

What exactly are you wanting to change / configure?
In the bios select Advanced mode>tools>ASUS Amoury Crate>Download & Install Armoury Crate app>enabled (by default).
Forgot about that. First time I installed Windows on a new build I found it ridiculous that when I got into Windows I had no network access because I needed to install drivers. ****Crate said it needed to download them so I could use my network and access the internet....Clearly MS basics network driver or AC had a working network driver or it wouldn't have been able to download the official driver. Toggled that of in Bios and completely forgot about it ass I haven't updated my bios for quite some time
because i just formatted my PC and the fan curve has changed back to default i assume. if i re install AC it will give me fresh default profiles and my manual one is purged?
BTW i use ACSE because i have a ROG ALLY. i assume AC and ACSE are the same.
#1 If your computer is overheating, do you really want Windows (and ASUS software on top of that) to have to work reliably to avoid damage?
#2 If you set the curves in BIOS, you need no additional software to control fan curves (avoiding unnecessary load on your system - you're better off having that extra processing power going towards your game performance rather than being wasted on ASUS' instable software to do a task BIOS can handle for you).
#3 Some Windows-based Asus software DOES mess with board hardware settings storage (otherwise you wouldn't be able to set RGB behaviour after shutdown in Windows-based ASUS software), especially when it comes to errors. If the unstable ASUS software writes something wrong into your mainboard storage, you may end up having the same error even after a Windows reinstallation (I am currently having such a problem, and opened another thread for my problem - in my case, the entire system starts crashing every few minutes if AC is installed, and doing a clean reinstall of Windows didn't sort out my problem).
Conclusion: Avoid ANY Asus software unless absolutely unavoidable. I am currently running my system without any control over my RGBs, because it's better to have it running perfectly stable without RGB control than to install AC and then have to reset the computer every 5 minutes.
Especially if all you want to do is control RGBs or Fans, use stable 3rd party open source software instead (like OpenRGB to control RGBs, or FanControl to control fans).
FanControl may be slightly more of an effort to set up, but once you have it running, it won't give you anywhere near as much trouble as ASUS software, and it doesn't even need installing (let alone mess with on-board hardware settings storage).
I've had Fan settings wiped when updating Bios. So between updating BIOS and Asus SuckyCrate I was forced to redo fancruves mutliple times. Hence why used the thirdparty fan controller I linked in post in #18. If I were to disable it from startup or close it the BIOS fancurve kicks in.
