Securom and Denuvo
So I am willing to buy some games and many of them uses Securom (old games) and Denuvo. I just would like to know more about these DRMs since they are pretty infamous, some people call them malware and I am aware that there is no open information how exactly they work but I have never seen that negative feedback about some DRM so there must be something about that. Only disadvantages I know about Securom and Denuvo are - games need more space and sometimes there is worse optimization since it can force your hardware to work harder for some reason. But why they are so hated besides these 2 reasons? And they are called not customer friendly. Do Securom and Denuvo affect PCs even if I don't run game with these DRMs and I have only installed game?

They are hated because they only hinder legitimate customers from playing their games.

If you launch your game too often Denuvo will say "You have reached the maximum amount of activations for today", meaning you can't launch the game anymore until the counter resets.

SecuROM did the same, preventing people from playing their games.

There are some documented cases that they, indeed, hinder performance. Hiccups and slowdowns can be very common issues.

Pirates, on the other hand, get none of that.

Not bad info. It considers new/updated WINE prefixes to be new installs.

They played Havoc on Low Spec Machines. Both are hated as well for limits on how many times you can play. Install to many times and you will not be allowed hence a email or call to the publisher

it is bad info

activation =/= launch
which needs to be activated before each launch after its been updated
since it sees it as a new install, not already activated

I do not recommend buy games that use SecuROM. Your safe bet is user Steam or console versions.

you could use software to emulate the disc to get around securom
kind of a pain but it works, since most pcs not do not have an odd

but a disc for console, or digital copy for pc or console is the best option
just avoid disc games for pc, or atleast games that do not come with an activation code

Every single game that I have tried to run that has Denuvo, runs like absolute crap

Hogwarts Legacy (the 2 hour compiling shaders, then failing, or stuttering existing after 1.5-2 hrs of playtime)

Atomic Heart (micro stutters)

Star Wars Jedi Survivor - oh my God it was bad

That being said, I don't play games with Denuvo DRM

The above 3 games that I had to try and play, I gave up on the first two, and then just gave my key to someone else for Jedi survivor since I couldn't even get it to run

Nowadays I don't even buy games with that crap DRM. I'll crack the damn game if I have bought it, but usually I'll just ignore those games.

Many other games with denuvo have come and gone, some of them looking really interesting...like Homeworld 3

But it's really easy for me to ignore those games now.

For homeworld 3, I thought, wow cool looking game! Saw the "denuvo", and my immediate reaction was "awww, never mind"

It's not difficult for me to ignore these games.

They would all run with double the fps if they just shipped normally

OMG I remember having to go around my old PCs and revoke the activation for various Need For Speed games so I would be able to install and run them on newer PCs I got later on. Please no more of this. It never served a good purpose. The pirated versions always had a easy work-around patch for that. So all the DRM does is hinder legit paying customers really.

Still a terrible voucher for it if it still runs with Denuvo

Denuvo, you know, that totally not sketchy software that says you can "uninstall it completely", but it "keeps an unnamed file on your hard drive"

That Denuvo.

You haven't bought any games, so I have more experience with Steam. I have no complaints at all. All you need is right gaming PC, that is it. So, it is not terrible voucher.

Hmm, that person just has their Games info set to Private. As some people don't want the recent games listed on their profile along with play-time. That's perfectly fine, who cares.

Yeah, it's not like I have dozens of games.

I have no games? Why do I have a badge about having a bunch of games?

I have played hundreds of games in my life. Off and on, some for not long, some for many hours.

Here's a game that didn't need Denuvo. Red Dead Redemption 2.

If games were just developed with as much passion and as detailed to make them all masterpieces, they wouldn't need drm.

It doesn't matter for me, I just don't buy games with denuvo. I also don't play them illegally.

That's fantastic that you play whatever you want. That should be just fine. But to not be suspect of a company that doesn't tell you what secret file they keep on your computer, that you cannot find anywhere online to figure out what the file's name is, or how to remove it?

Well, what if I went into your house undetected, and then left an item there, one that you would never ever think of owning?

Would you be comfortable with me having this item there? What if it's a bug, and I can listen to everything all the time? Then you call me, and I tell you, oh, I can remove it anytime. I just won't, but it's there, I just cannot tell you what it is."

I swear, it feels like some people just don't think about having the tiniest desire to have privacy.

Man i feel bad for all the people that will find out about their parents posting thousands of pictures to their Facebooks, and then all their childhoods are completely ruined, due to being completely humiliated and embarrassed.

But it's fine when it's just something affecting gamers

Whatever. Do whatever with your computer what you will. I won't tell you what to do

I might think it's disturbing that you don't care at all, however.
