steam decks battery drains constantly..? help
for some reason the steam deck i have first versions battery drains nonstop, is there any way to fix this?

can i upgrade or use a part to extend the battery usage or keep it in a cooled area? is there a external battery to buy? my settings seem normal but it drains from 90 to 40 in a total of hours. what can i do?? or should i buy the led new version

thats how batteries work
you can charge them, and drain with use

it will charge slower while running

ask in the deck forum for advice on making the battery last longer

The OLED is more efficient and has a larger battery, yes.

Either way, you can adjust your per-game settings to use less power. Lower the TDP, that sort of thing. The lower you can get the power consumption while still running the game at a tolerable level, the longer your battery will last on a charge. Also playing very demanding games will demand more power out of your Deck.

Just extend it on the go with a usb type-c power bank. Just ensure it's a good power bank with ports that can handle up to 45 or 65 watts.

consider malware. does it fast-drain when you are connected to the internet? does it fast-drain when youre in range of other bluetooth devices?

google research: malware is draining my battery fast,

it would take too long to discuss it :steamhappy:

i dont know much about steam decks or what you have saved on it, but a factory reset or system restore could be a quick fix.

it was a long shot guess that no one else mentioned.

it would do the same thing as if you had to much stuff on your drive. they are stored in shadow volumes, if your hard drive reads 3-5 gb less than factory rating you have malware.

and i mean if youre not running anything and youre battery is draining fast then thats malware again.
thx ill look into it plus im on the steam deck so no idea how it would have malware🤷🏻‍♂️

it has an operating system no?

i heard it can inject packets ad eter monitor mode, im pretty sure it can get malware :steammocking:

but youre more likely have an old battery or froze it or something. or too much stuff on your storage like you said.

Technically possible, but highly unlikely if he still has the original SteamOS.

The battery drains faster with demanding games, with a demanding game you're lucky to get two hours.

With that said, adjust your power settings and/or apply external power such as mains or a bettery pack :-)

its probly demanding games

but that should be easy to diagnose, you start the game, the steam deck sounds like a vacum cleaner, its using a lot of battery

theres new malware if not properly cofigured it will drain your battery faster than it can charge thereby bricking your phone

but thats adroid.

If you even think you have a malware issue, you're blindly installing stuff from random places and not micro-managing what goes onto your devices, which is simply stupid to say the least.

On Android, micro-manage any background running apps more if you would like to gain a bit more battery run-time for Gaming on it. As those background apps can really eat up the battery when they are constantly doing online communications, sometimes much of that you are not even aware that it is doing.
its not malware gonna close this thread thx for the help tho👍🏻👍🏻

Google > battery replacement for Steam Deck

There you go.

Then before you do, make sure the SteamOS on Deck is fully updated. If need be wipe the Deck out and install/restore the latest OS already updated to it and go from there. Then change out the battery.
