The description for Event ID 1 from source NVIDIA OpenGL Driver cannot be found
Hi, all. I posted this yesterday in Steam Discussions, but will also post it here for visibility. Since August 13th, I've been encountering a weird issue that occurs in Event Viewer related to the Steam app. The app launches and works as expected from my hard drive, but there are certain instances where the following event will appear:

"The description for Event ID 1 from source NVIDIA OpenGL Driver cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.

If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.

The following information was included with the event:

The GPU has been disconnected and this application may become unresponsive.

Error code: 10
(pid=9928 tid=8356 steamwebhelper.exe 64bit)

Visit http://www.nvidia.com/page/support.html for more information."

This usually occurs when updating Windows 10 or just today, updating the Steam client to the latest version. I'm running a GTX 970 on the latest driver and launch Steam from my WD Black hard drive.

I've never had any issues with the Steam client, although after updating to the latest version it briefly flashes a black screen when re-opening the client after closing out through the X button.

Is anyone else encountering this issue with {LINK REMOVED} Could it be an issue with my graphics card? Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Most likely just a bug with the update causing path issues, try removing your GPU driver and re-install it.

Thank you very much. I typically just update my GPU drivers through GeForce Experience and have never had any issues with it, so I'll try this if anything serious happens. It doesn't break any of my games, so it should be fine.

If Event Viewer is the only place you see an issue and it's not appearing yo effect anything you do on the PC, then don't worry about it.

Avoid GFE like the plaque. Use the DDU wipe method in safe mode to wip everything pit for GPU, GFE and Displays. Then reboot and download and install latest Nvifia driver package from Nvidia website. Select Drivers Only, no GFE. Then get the NVIDIA APP which replaces GFE.

Thank you for the very detailed response. I always relied on GFE to install my graphics to avoid relying on .exe files. I've heard about DDU but never thought that I would need to use it. I've also never had to fully clean my drivers to troubleshoot graphics, but I'll be sure to remember this method in case anything doesn't work as expected.

It's a good idea as the driver editions change... like say for example from 510.xx to 520.xx that you do a wipe + clean install.

You can replace GFE with this:
https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/software/nvidia-app/

This is very helpful. I'll look into the Nvidia app. Thank you for all of your help.
