Ryzen 5 5600x video editing?
Would the Ryzen 5 5600x be good for 1080p video editing? I would be pairing it with the 6700xt.

In the case of video editing I might go with a 12600k or a 5700x depending on whether or not you already have an AM4 motherboard or not. More cores is more performance in video editing.

Also, I say the k rather than the kf because the I.G.P.U. gives you access to the Intel Quick Sync hardware encoder/decoder.

I'm on a really tight budget, I wouldn't be doing any 3d video editing like source film maker.
Wait... are you building a new system based around AM4? That would be a complete waste to even think to do that.

Why's that?
Well I mean there's also the 12400[www.amazon.com]. It's a 6 core processor but it still has the intel igpu. I've seen that it's better for video editing and it is a bit cheaper, but that was before the recent windows update. It functions well with with cheaper motherboards too.

Are you on am4 though? If you're already on AM4 and the best processor you can afford is the 5600x, I'd say your choice is made for you already then, isn't it?

I don't know for sure yet, im still considering my options since this would be my first pc build. But due to my budget I think am4 would be best due to how expensive the am5 and lga1700 motherboards are.

intel non f
the intel f has no igpu
i7-12700K has currently $200 deal at Newegg until end of this week.

What is your budget?

A Ryzen 5 5600X and a decent B550 should cost you ≈$200
An i5 12400 and a decent B660/760 cost the same.

Yes. That's what I meant to express. "K rather than kf", ergo no f at the end. However, when writing that I had to be specific in recommending the K because the 12600 base model is $270, whereas the 12600k is only $170 in U.S. pricing. Its been like that for a while now.

L.G.A. 1700 motherboards aren't much more expensive than AM4 motherboards.

The cheapest one on the market is only $70[http//ASRock+H610M-HVS], and the 12400 is known to play nice with similar motherboards, likely due to relatively low power draw requirements.

By means of contrast, the cheapest AM4 motherboard is $60[www.amazon.com], and a 5600x probably wouldn't play so nicely with that since it's a more demanding am4 chip. Plus with the am4 chips being cheaper than their closest equivalent am5 chips, you're paying pretty close to the same for the motherboard/C.P.U. combinations, if not less.

If I were to be going with the am4 platform and then I would probably be going with the MSI B550-A PRO. Just because of its reviews compared to others mobos.

i have a 5600. i edit 1080p video just fine and it renders reasonably fast at the same resolution in h264. you'll be fine

this guy's half-right. if you have the budget for it i recommend opting for a 5700X instead, whether new or used. idk where you live but it's close to $160 on amazon, and $40 for 2 more cores is not a bad deal at all, especially since they'll make video editing better. 5700X3D is also an option if you want better gaming performance

Who uses H264? We've been using H265 for years now.

If you are just now buying AM4 then buy a 5700X3D + 2x 16GB DDR4 3600. Get a decent B550 board

Twitch uses H264.
Ok but that's live streaming that doesn't have anything to do with you rendering videos locally.

All the 4K movies I been downloading for couple years are H265. But H264 is still just fine too.
