Wooden GPU Backplate Yay or Nay?
See I have a gigabyte Aurous master 3070. and I am not in love with the shroud or backplate. Neighbour is a luthier. Now it has a little led screen, so I am thinking of theming it off an old telly and even adding a little mechanism that turning a knob switched the bios

So I thunked some thonks. That I could just replace it with something nice made out of wood. And if I like it enough maybe even see if I can have him make it in bulk and do conversions for different GPU's.

Cheers :)

Wooden cases are nothing new. But GPU's shrouds and backplates I have yet to see.
Heat makes wood go dry, dry wood cracks... that's all I have to say ; )

You could treat the wood with some proper oil stain and varnish but varnish might yellow over time, so we will go with clear tabletop epoxy - then we can use no stain at all.

Yes, hydro-dipping.
Use Oak for its higher heat conductivity and better flame resistance. Appears to be on par with plastic.
smelly oils in wood dont react with the heat over time?

i get a little dust in my gpu and it smells like campfire when it warms up. im stick to sniffing normal plastics and glues thank you.

Alright Cedar it is then.
there is new extra long riser cables fyi i dont even care about backplates anymore just put the gpu anywhere.

Those GPU risers come at a slight cost of performance, however.
