Get around CNN.com paywall on amount of articles you can read per a day without an account? - I know this will be a iffy subject and a lot of people will disagree with it
I know I know use a different news site instead.

What fun would that be ?

There are plenty of paywall bypass methods. It's simple to google them.

I know and I found them.

They did not work on CNN.com though
I have never had any issue with CNN, other than putting opinion works a little too prominently and using buzzfeed-style clickbait headlines from time to time.

Are you using Chrome or something?

Firefox
You can get around all of those by configuring uBlock Origin
I would either use an adblocker or something like the NoScript plugin where you can often just disable the responsible script from trying to paywall you.

It takes some trial and error sometimes, especially when a webpage uses a long list of nasty scripts and analytics on it to track what you do, so it can be difficult to figure out what is critical for the webpage and what can be blocked entirely.

Now if you image search and it links to Instagram, you can't really get around theirs, where once you start scrolling an image wall of results on there it will bust out a login pop-up overlay.

I recently set up a Raspberry Pi 4, and trying to visit typical news websites on it without any form of browser filtering... makes one think the hardware is not suitable for desktop computing. Even chromiium was painful, and that version for the Rpi is specifically built for it.

I ended up installing noscript, which pairs nicely with ublock, at least once one gets over the learning curve. Sites that were too slow to use became useful again when both nosript and ublock were properly configured!

It's too bad many sites seem to need so much processing power on the client... makes you wonder what happened to the client/server model. Well, at least the capability still exists to try to optimize that stuff locally, although Google is certainly making efforts to derail it with their new chrome 'privacy' stuff, as they really aren't concerned about consumer preferences in regards ot that.
Its ironic all the people with ad blockers have contributed to more pay walls being setup and the advertiser model crashing. Fair and unbiased news only from the headlines of a news aggregator. The meat and potatoes hidden away and the informative absorbing nature of the internet is meaninglessly trodded on.

Yes there was and is malware served up with ads that caused the popular browsers to become even more strict aside from the ad blockers. Its strange there is no lucrative reset as of yet, guess people hate ads way more than having pay wall free access and the scales stay tipped that way. :launchpad:
If Ublock or No Script doesn't work then I try the browser dev tools to get to what I want. If that doesn't work I typically just leave the site.

Tbh, I rather pay than watch ads. The main issue with paying is that it adds up once you pay for too many services, and that's not a small issue unless you're rather well of economically.

And that you can pay, and then get ads too.

Yeah, I really don't like that and I agree with the # you posted.
10 foot is a good paywall remover. It's not perfect but can help in most situations.
