Ps3 controller charging when connected to pc but i want it to connect to steam
i want my ps3 controller connected to steam but when i plug it in it just charges, how can i fix this if i can?

steam -> settings -> controller -> [general]

sony ds3 will only charge when using a data cable

is it an aftermarket controller?

Some cables only have the ability to charge over USB and can not send data. Since Steam is not detecting the controller and it is only charging it may very well be one such cable.

the controller is detected its just not sending any inputs

does it show in
steam -> settings -> controller -> [general]

each controller can have different mappings for desktop, bpm and each game

make sure its configured correctly for each

i dont want to download external drivers from websites that arent the offical playstation one

For a ps3 controller install in windows using the dualshock 3 driver and after clicking 'next' choose controller from drop down list.
