Good build for a "casual gamer"?
Hey, this Christmas I'm getting a rig with the following specs:

UPDATE: I've already ordered and received all of the parts except for the CPU and motherboard which will arive in the mail around Christmas.

Here's what I got:

FX-6300 6-core 3,5 GHz (hasn't arrived yet)
Asrock 970 PRO (hasn't arrived yet)
Kingston HyperX Genesis 2x4 GB
Asus GTX660 TI
Seagate Barracuda 1 TB
Asus DRW X24
Corsair CX500W
Cooler Master Elite 310
Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium

THE FOLLOWING TEXT IS OLD AND OUTDATED:

Gigabyte GA-F2A88XM-D3H motherboard
AMD A10 6800k Black Edition 4.4 ghz
AMD Radeon HD 8670D (onboard)
8 gb 1600 mhz RAM
1000 gb hard drive
450 watt power supply
Cooler Master Elite 344 case

Could you tell me if this build is any good for a "hardcore casual gamer" like me? You can take a peek in my game collection to see what kind of games I'm into. Also, the prebuilt rig comes with the OS installed and ready to go, which do you guys think will suit me better, Windows 7 64-bit or Windows 8/8.1 64-bit? Also I'd like to know which one performs better as a gaming OS. Thanks in advance.

UPDATE:

I found a nice build with these specs, which one is better?

AMD FX6350 4.2 ghz 6-core
4 gb 1333 mhz RAM
NVIDIA GTX 650
Zalman Z9 case w/ 500 watt power supply
Asrock 970 motherboard

UPDATE:

Here's a better one I found for 738 euros.

AMD FX6300 Box
Asus M5A97
Asus GeForce GTX 660 2 GB
Kingston HyperX Genesis 2x4 GB
Zalman Z3 Plus
EVGA 500 W PSU
WD Caviar Blue 1 TB
Asus 24x DVDRW Black SATA
Windows 7/8.1 64-bit Home Premium
Basic assembly

UPDATE:

I managed to crank the price down a little:

AMD FX-6300 Box - 110 €
Asrock 970DE3 - 60 €
MSI GTX660 OC 2 GB GDR5 - 169 €
Crucial D3 1333 mhz 8 GB RAM - 64 €
Zalman Z3 Plus - 40 €
EVGA 500W PSU - 55 €
WD Caviar Blue - 59 €
Asus DVDRW 24x Black SATA - 18 €
Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium - 95 €
Basic assembly with no software installation - 35 €

Total: 704.11 euros

Your processor is excellent and the graphics card is good aswell. You should have no problem running the games that you've already purchased on max settings. Newer games should run well too. Nice set up! :D I aslo suggest sticking with Windows 7 as Windows 8 (IMO) is pretty obnoxious and difficult to navigate but that's just my preference. Hope this Helped!

Thanks mate. I've heard many people yabbing about the A10's onboard graphics, should I get a standalone card instead? I'm not planning to play games in 1080p anyway, infact making the resolution higher than 1024x768 gives me motion sickness.

I feel the exact same way. BTW, how much does the entire rig cost? (I'm really cheap and have barely any money for a pc or laptop) I've got 400-500 dollars for a half decent laptop or pc but I keep finding ones that are absolutely crap or giant rip offs (Seriously! 400 for a laptop with a graphics card from 2006 and a 1 Ghz processor!)

The rig, with OS ready to go costs 689 euros. And I agree. Many prebuilt laptops these days are absolute garbage, I feel sorry for people who bought one of those laggy bastards. AMD E1 and Radeon 7310 are pure junk, had experience with those ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. If I were you I'd go for atleast 2.7 ghz for a dual core or 2 ghz for a quad, and a standalone GPU, preferably NVIDIA 500 series or higher or one from the Radeon 7000 series. My current build's the following and it's served me fine with most games made before 2011:

AMD Athlon II X2 220 2.81 ghz dual core
4 gb RAM
GeForce 405 at 1 gb

That thing costed like 650 bucks back in 2010, and I think it's a bit of a rip off, after all it is an eMachines (pronounced crapMachines).

Yeah, I'm considering just picking up one of those Haswell Barebones and just piecing together something decent from there. It's got a nice 3.0 Ghz i5 processor though, I'm not to sure about the graphics card or GPU but I guess we'll cross that bridge when we get to it.

An AMD FX-6300 with an additional card like a Radeon R7 would yield better performance for about the same amount of money if that matters to you. The A10 will be more energy efficient so that's something to consider. If it's one of those cut rate 450W PSUs(Power Supply Unit) I would get a better name brand one, because cut-rate PSUs have been known to fry motherboards some may even cause house fires, even if you are nowhere near their limit. Something like an Antec, OCZ, or Corsair maybe your best bet for the price and reliability, and they're pretty efficient too.

I've paid $50 for an Ultra 500W PSU when I was 14 and it outlived 3 PCs and still works, just the fan bearing is worn down. I'm 21 now.

Basically it's all about what segment you want to target with your system and your budget, but do not skimp out on the power supply. Spend a good $50-60 on it, you will not regret it.

The i5 is a good choice too but maybe a little bit more money. AMDs work fine for budget gaming rigs as long as you get a good video card with them, and they will take their sweet time rendering photo and video projects when compared to Intel(which I recommend for media, other than games.)

Also AMD Mantle support is something else to consider.

I found a decent PC with a 3.6 Ghz Dual Core with a 7540 HD Radeon Graphics card for 300. I think I know what I'm picking up. Can someone tell me if this is at least decent?

Hey, I found a nice build that doesn't come with an OS with the following specs:

AMD FX6350 4.2 ghz (6-core, judging on the clock speeds, amount of cores and number of cache memory I think this bad boy is even more powerful than the PS4 will ever be)
4 gb 1333 mhz RAM
NVIDIA GTX 650
Zalman Z9 case w/ 500 watt power supply
Asrock 970 motherboard

It costs 599 euros without the OS, is this build any good?

I think I'll just invest in this for now, and then invest in a better graphics card but for now, I think this can run what I want to play on lowest settings. I'm done with stressing over this. Just want a decent deal and upgrade it from there. =D

Hey, I found a nice build that doesn't come with an OS with the following specs:

AMD FX6350 4.2 ghz (8-core, judging on the clock speeds, amount of cores and number of cache memory I think this bad boy is even more powerful than the PS4 will ever be)
4 gb 1333 mhz RAM
NVIDIA GTX 650
Zalman Z9 case w/ 500 watt power supply

It's 6-core.
You want 8 Gb of 1600 Mhz RAM.
GTX 650 is entry level gaming card, not exactly speed demon.

The build istelf is great although the Graphics card can't run newer games maxed out but can run them smoothely on medium to lower without any stats. You might actually be able to play them on high however, if you do some overclocking and configurating your card. Everything else is excellent though the I'm a little iffy on that price considering you don't take the OS but I think it could last you a couple of years.

It looks like some crappy office PC, they are nightmare to upgrade later with small cases and small 300W power supplies that you need to swap if you want better graphics card.
Really just waste of money.
