Razer Chimaera 5.1
Any1 have these and get surround sound workin on pc with optical cables?

I have the optical cable in and have never been able to actually get the 5.1 surround working.
I did get the mic working, which razer says is impossible..such BS all you need is a 2.5mm to 3.5mm or whatever size it is jack/line. Works beautifully. But the surround sound which they say should work does not.

Ideas?
My motherboard is a p9x79pro. No sound card but it supports surround, optical, all that jazz.

Hey!
This is kinda late but I just ordered the Chimaera 5.1 and just wanted to confirm that connecting the headset to your mic input on the computer with a cable (2.5mm to 3.5mm) will allow you to use your mic when using the toslink cable. I've searched quite a few sites to find a workaround and this is pretty much the only informative post there is. It seems like everyone else just believed what Razer said about it being impossible. Do you (if you still are using this setup) have any mic issues with this method and, overall, how well does it work?

Thanks!

Works flawlessly.

And at good quality.

Actually surprised more people dont know about it.
I emailed razer a few times to tell them.
They seem not to care.
(really bad customer service also)
Wouldnt help me with surround sound.
Wouldnt replace my headset even after admiting mine had a manufacturing defect...
------------

Only thing still not working is 5.1 suround over optical.

Thanks so much for replying. Sucks to heard about your sound problem. I don't know if you've tried but Razer has their Razer Surround software which emulates 7.1 surround sound with any stereo headset so maybe you can give that a shot (if you haven't already). Probably not as good as Dolby 5.1 but it seems better than plain stereo. Kinda lame of Razer to blow off their customer considering they used to be well known for their customer service. Anyways, thanks for your help, nice to know that you can get the Chimaeras to work flawlessly with PC as well.

I think the solution to you problem is that you need a sound card that supports Dolby Digital Live (the live part is very crucial) in order for the 5.1 to work properly. Even though your mobo has an optical output, I'm pretty sure it doesn't support DDL. You need to get either an internal or external soundcard that supports DDL (the live part is important as it needs to be able to encode the audio live) and also has an optical output. I'm kinda in the same boat myself and opted for the Creative X-Fi Surround 5.1 Pro. Obviously I don't have my headset yet and can't comment on its performance but people have used it fine with other surround sound headsets.
Provided that the problem isn't with your headset, I'm pretty sure this could be the answer to your problem.

My computer supports 5.1 surround. Part of the issue is in the DTS format. However never could find people that got 5.1 working on pc. Dolby or not.

I know this is really old but once you have the 2.5 to 3.5mm wire, where does it go?

plug into mic-in on the computer(3.5mm)
and into the headset(2.5mm)
Have to be using fibre optics sound mode.

edit:
While I'm at it I'll say I used the headset for a very long time. Loved it for the most part. But hated the fact it needed batteries. My gaming sessions were basically determined by my battery charge. Ultimately I moved on from them after the headsets plastic starting forming cracks and earcups no longer stayed on as a result.

Very comfortable headset.
I got a razer kraken pro wired to replace it. Terrible idea. Such a downgrade. hurt my ears and head sooooo much. Many people love it...but clearly they never have known comfort.

My current headphones are the best I have ever owned. Extremely comfortable. I'd say unbeatable in comfort.
Amazing sound quality too. Best sounding headset ive blessed my ears with.
It is also wired with like a 15ft coiled cord which is awesome.

Beyerdynamic DT770 pro 250ohm.
Probably the bestheadphones available for what they cost.

Hey thanks for the help I used this for my Xbox for years but now I'm switching it to pc and razer is about as useful as a dead fish under a couch.
