Scary temps i7 3770k
My system:
asus directcu ii 780
extreme4 z77 mobo
3770k with stock fan 3.5
Aerocool syclone ii case

So I was curious to see what temps my new 780 got, 60C in bf4, but I glanced at the cpu temps and it was at 81C to 93C! This is bad right? All the other temp readings were low.

At idle, just steam running, it hovers around 41C

So should I get a new cooler such as the Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO? If so how difficult is it to change from the stock 3770k cooler?

And in the meantime is it safe to play games?

hyper 212 is a classic and great, HOWEVER, dont pay attention to temps. srsly. pay attention to clockspeed. if you see clockspeed decreasing it means youre pushing thigns to far. the 3770 for instance is made to run past boiling point, 105 celsius.

What software are you monitoring the CPU temperature with?

The 2xxx series has a soldered IHS (Integrated heat spreader), while the 3xxx and 4xxx has a "cheap" thermal paste.
One way is to lower the overclocking , just 100-200MHz might do the trick.
If you don't overclock, make sure the chassi "can breath" so that the warm air can escape.

(There are methods to make the processor cooler, however I only recommend this if you can afford another processor if you fail. It's called "deliding".
Once again, I only recommend this if you can afford, and know what you are doing.
You can fail, badly...

...make sure you read, and watch the videos. And do think more than once before you try.
And please don't blame me if you fail =P )

And I would say, that water cooling is a safer bet. the 212 is really good, but water is just one step above and might help.

Even though Intels processors can take just over 100°C, doesn't mean it should do so for a long period of time.

I used CPUID HWmoniter

You just need a better cpu cooler, stock is not sufficient for gtx 780. Get a 212 evo like he said or whatever 3rd-party cooler you prefer. Yes, it can be tricky to install it but there's a few good videos out there. http://store.steampowered.com It's the best vid to me, he shows the tricky parts. (proper backplate installation, paste application)

Don't spread paste, you create cravaces which cause air bubbles and raise temps. You can apply rice sized amount of paste on cpu or heatsink and you'lll be fine. Use 90% alcohol and toilet paper if you don't have pads to remove previous paste.

Also, your case looks like it has terrible air-flow. Try monitoring temps with the panels off. Get a case with more air-flow later on.

intel cpus are good to around 90-100c, and will throttle when too hot
most gpus are good to around 100c and will throttle when too hot

if the i7 3770k has the stock heatsink, keep it at stock speeds

That looks easy enough I guess. Just one more question though, once I get a better cooler whats an ideal temp to make sure thats all I need for now?

Without OC'ing you'll see it like in the 60s-70s mostly, while you game. With proper airflow.

I hope your psu is at least 600w, preferably 750w. Not enough juice from a psu can also destabilize things.

Mainly, keep your side panels off while you do your gaming. Without adequate case ventilation the DCUII 780s fans expel all that heat into your system. Your gpu will be cool but everything will be put to task by that heat build up. I doubt you could have a side-panel fan and 212 evo without conflict and 1 front intake fan isn't enough. Especially, if it's at the bottom. So panels off for now, put them back on before you go to bed.

CM Hyper 212 EVO is prob not good idea with this case, it would block the sidepanel fan slot.

Case fan is for your sidepanel if you dont already have fan there.
