Steam Client Freaks out when using menu buttons
I have to say I am NOT a fan of the new client update as it has been a huge headache from day one.

Has anyone had weird issues where pressing one of the menu buttons at the top of the screen causes it to have weird behavior?

For example, today I bought a new game and then went to the Library tab to look at something. When I clicked on the Store tab, instead of taking me to the home store screen, it took me back to the purchase screen for the game I bought and kept acting like it was trying to go Back over and over. Because I had already bought the game, it was telling me that there is an error purchasing the product because it is already in my library.

Later, I went to the Community tab and scrolled through some screenshots. Seeing one for an interesting game, I clicked on the game name, and it took me to the store page for this game. I then clicked on the Community button and tried to hit the back arrow to back out of the screenshot. Instead, the client took me to the Store tab and started scrolling back through my entire day's history of store tabs, starting with the Daily Discovery Queue and then through games I looked at and so on until it errored out with error 401. But it then kept reloading that page over and over until I closed the Steam Brower.

These weird things happen from time to time now, though those two are the worst. Basically I would click one menu item and it will go to a different window and start acting like I am trying to click on things.

No other app on my PC acts this way, so its not a virus or something screwing with my data.

I have tried playing around with it, and while I have not been able to re-break it to the same degree, it seems to really hate it when you move around different tabs Store<->Library<->Community, and then hit the Back button for example. It will try to take you to the previous tab if you were on it, but if that previous thing in that tab was an automated process (like buying a game, moving through discovery queue, or something like that), it really freaks out and starts trying to jump around pages or other tabs for some reason.
Ok, here is a problem that is happening right now.

I went to Help - > Steam Support -> Steam Client -> Steam Client Crashes -> General troubleshooting to get back to this post.

This lands me here; https://help.steampowered.com/en/faqs/view/29A6-F529-F956-6292

Now when I hit "community" or "store" at the top of my screen, it will take me back to that above page. Furthermore, if I select Store -> Home before clicking it, it will take me to the storefornt, and it will keep doing that if I hit just the Store button again. BUT, if I click "Community" it will again take me to the above URL. If I then select Community -> Home, it will take me to the correct page, and keep doing that if I select "Community" again, but NOW, it will take me to the above URL if I select "Store" while on the community page. It seems that URL has gotten stuck cached when navigating away from my current page!!
Try a Steam Repair where you wipe out all of Steam without removing the

Steam.exe
DepotCache
SteamApps
UserData

Then right click Steam.exe and click Run As admin and this way it will download a fresh copy of the entire client.

Make sure Steam.exe properties is configured to ignore DPI scaling
Will do
Well that did technically fix the problem. After re-downloading everything Steam will now no longer connect to the server and I cannot access Offline Mode either. This is not resolved by a system restart.

But I have no further issues with the store page, so I guess we're good.

EDIT: Nevermind, we are back. Boy if you hate the Steam Client on Windows you should try the phone one. What a mess. Making the above post cost me 3 years of my life.

What server? You mean a game server or a download server?
steam server. The problem resolved itself after waiting some time.

I see now there are multiple threads about this issue in the general steam discussion forum, so I think this is just a bad build.
Every Tuesday between approx 6pm-9pm EST USA Steam does various downtime maintenance tasks. During this period you may experience partially working or non-working parts of Steam overall. Such as trouble loading, slow loading or errors loading up Steam Community Forums for example. So that is probably what you experienced
