need vid card advise to run dayz
i've got a dell dimension 580 (not the slim)
win7
i3 550 @ 3.20ghz
8gb ram (7.8gb usable)
64 bit

i can only get 2-6fps in dayz mod even folowing all of the tutorials to raise fps so i went to the can i run it website and it said my video card was only 64mb and not good enough to run it. i had never used the site before and had no idea if it could be trusted or was just a ploy to get me to buy stuff so i looked into my specs and found my windows index rating.

processor: 7.0
memory: 7.0
graphics 4.9
gaming graphics: 5.3

so my video card is definatly the weakest link.

problem is i have no idea what cards i can use.

  • some things to factor into my decision are:
  • i dont want to buy anything but a card right now\
  • card needs to be able to play dayz mod and standalone
  • not looking to spend over $100 usd

the main cards im considering are:
  • EVGA GeForce GT 630 1GB DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 $65
  • Asus NVIDIA GeForce 640 2GB DDR3 PCI Express 3.0 $95
  • EVGA GeForce GT 640 2GB DDR3 PCI Express 3.0 $95
  • Diamond Multimedia ATI Radeon HD 6670 2GB GDDR3 PCI E $80

are there any of these that wont work or that i should avoid? i'd really like to go with one of the cheaper cards if possible without sacrificing riliability or dropping to low in fps in dayz.

im not a computer gamer so i really only need the card to work and bring up my fps in dayz any help would be greatly appreciated

System requirments say 560.
get a 560 TI http://www.ebay.com/itm/Nvidia-GeForce-GTX-560-Ti-1GB-DDR5-PCI-E-2-0-16x-DirectX11-SLI-/390744337381?pt=PCC_Video_TV_Cards&hash=item5afa2d6be5

but if you plan to play MORE games I would reccomend something better, ATLEAST 660 ti

thats a little too far out of price range to play one game. i dont need perfection just a few more fps so im not constantly running into things and can aim. atm with 2-6fps i walk into things constantly and there is a lag/delay of about 2 seconds when trying to move or aim.. current onboard graphics are only 64mb

is this not possible without a $150 graphics card? i'd also like to stick to cards available through bestbuy.com or walmart.com since i have giftcards from christmas

oh... well all their stuff is overpriced that is why I use ebay. I really do not know about those ancient cards though

according to videocardbenchmark.net any of the cards i listed are way better than the minimum required but not quite as good as the ones recomended. i just have no idea if any of the ones i listed are even compatible with my computer

is there a way to receive email notifications of replys like other forums have?

Don't bother getting a 2GB GT 640 because the bus is too small to utilize more than 1GB. I'd also go with a 7750 instead because it's faster than GT 640 and costs the same.

I think save your money?

homucifer i just cant see spending more than $100 to play just dayz, i have no interest in any other pc games. just seems a bit crazy to spend $200 between the game and the card to try a game that i may not even play more than a few times. if a $100 card wont atleast get me playing 20-30fps ill probably just bow out. cant see the point of spending more than that on a 3yo pc when i dont game more than a couple of hours per year

thanks for the help bty

kamina is this the card your talking about and is it compatible with my pc?

XFX Radeon HD 7750 Graphic Card-800MHz Core-1GB DDR5 SDRAM-PCI Express 3.0 x16

Buying an aftermarket video card is a matter of preference. Asus, XFX, Saphire, Gigabyte, are all 3rd party vendors but the GPU is all the same. Some will have better thermal performance than others but it's negligible considering these cards don't get all that hot.

It's compatible if you have a PCI-E x16 slot. They're all backwards compatiable as well.

checked your specs on dell site and you have a PCIe 16 slot (didn't say if its a 2.0 or 3.0) but either will work. so yes the card above will be fine . happy gaming

You may also very likely require a new PSU.
B_Hanley 2014 年 1 月 16 日 上午 7:15
thats why i was looking into the cards i mentioned iin the first post. reviews on all of them said they would work fine with my stock 300w psu and all of their ratings from videocardbenchmark.net were 5-15x better than the current onboard graphics and above the minimum recomended system requirements from dayz.

i would rather get 20-30 fps in dayz and not have to change psu than get 40-50 fps and have to change psu. like i said this is the only game i want to play on pc.
senseidongen 2014 年 1 月 16 日 上午 8:18
On your stock 300W PSU, GT 640 is probably the best card you can get... and that'll serve you well to be honest, could probably play pretty much any game - low settings for newer games but they'll definitely work

are we talking 20-30 fps on dayz?

thats actually great to hear since i woke up to a clogged chimney thats going to cost a bit to have cleaned. lol im hoping i can grab the 7750 for an extra $30 but if i cant after fixing the chimney i can definatly swing the gt 640

Depends on settings and resolution but almost certainly. I don't have data on day-Z specifically, but you'll find game benchmarks in this review

As is evident in the link above, an HD7750 would be worth it if you can afford it but either is absolutely fine :)

People on the Steam forums have a bad habit of recommending excessively powerful hardware for people who aren't looking for that

haha thats all forums.
join a guitar forum all the sudden you need a 50yo guitar and amp to sound good
join a photography forum all the sudden you need $8k worth of kit to take baby pics

i knew i was in for that here and tryed to do most of the research before posting because im used to that with forums. its not an intentional thing people just get used to top of the line gear and cant see recomending someone else buy gear that they wouldnt use themselves.

i probably would be gung ho into it if i still played other pc games but the only pc game i ever really got into was Americas Army about 10 years ago. seeing a few youtube bids on dayz by accident made me want to try again but without dumping massive amounts of cash into it like i did with other hobbies. its a little easier to get a good bit of your money back selling guitars and camera gear than it is used pc parts.
