GTX 760 is same class in performance as HD 7950.
R9 270X is just renamed HD 7870 and in same class as GTX 660.
I think you mean the 270X not the 290X is a newer HD7870. The 290X is a brand new GPU. Also there is nothing wrong with a HD7870 anyway, it was a good card.
There really isnt a huge difference in the price to performance between the 270X and the 760. If you have the little extra money for a 760 then go for it!
