PS2-USB converter not recognized. Please help. Total PC idiot.
I posted this in the Sniper Ghost Warrior 2 Comm and got no response. Thought I would try here. Please speak clearly, as I am not a comp nerd and know very little about what I am doing when it comes to all this.

A friend of mine just turned me onto Steam. I am unsure of it as I am not really into PC gaming, more of a console guy. I bought a PS2-USB interface so I could try my hand at PC gaming but still use my controller.
Problems:
1. I can't seem to get my controller to work on the demo I downloaded. How do I accomplish this?
2. I watched a video a guy posted on youtube and it made very little sense to me [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9th32IG1DNs], as I know just the basics about computers. I can't find the game files that he talks about anywhere on my comp, and the link he has for the "msvcp" files led me to a site that I was not able to figure out what to download; it all looked like advertisement traps to me.

Please help. If I can't use my PS2 controller I will delete my Steam account and just go back to console gaming.

My friend told me that the adapter I have is called the Blue Triangle. Oooh, sounds mysterious. And it is; it's a mystery on how to get this thing to work like it should.
Just thought this might help you guys out.
Thanks for all your input, just please stop suggesting the 360 controller, it ain't gonna happen.

should just suck it up and buy a logitech or xbox wired controller. you just plug them in and they work. thats it. sony did not make drivers for playstation controllers for PC, thats why its such a hassle to get them to work. 20 bucks at walmart gets you a knock off brand xbox controller that will work great.

DirectInput was the older controller method. There was no pre-determined layout, symmetry or standard between any devices, making it extremely difficult for developers to add support for their games because they wouldn't know what sort of controller people had or what buttons would be used.

Xinput fixes this somewhat, by having a definitive button layout so that the gamepads all have most of the buttons in the same place and aren't missing any or adding new ones that shouldn't be there. This is why the vast majority of older generic gamepads are no use for modern PC gaming and take considerably more effort to set up.

So are you saying a PS2 controller will not work because it does not have the same button layout as the PS3? I thought that it did, or it did last time I used one.
