Headphone Issue [Astro A50]
Hey, I'm not sure if this is the correct sub-forum for this, but for Christmas I got Astro A50 Wireless headphones, and to connect these up I need to connect the USB cable and an Optical cable to my laptop, but sadly my laptop doesn't have an optical input. Is there any way around this or anything I can connect to my laptop that adds an optical input?

Thanks

My apologies I didn't word it very well, the USB & Optical cable connect from the PC to a transmitter which then wirerlessly connect to the headphones themselves.
I see u built a Desktop PC, what motherboard and OS did u end up using?

Haven't build or ordered parts yet, but MSI B85M-G43 Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard & Windows 7
Ok well first off, the Optical Cable is mainly for Consoles (connecting from Optical Out on a console, to Optical In on the A50 receiver). You can use the Optical cable on a PC; but again your system would have to have Optical Output, which while most Desktops do, most Laptops do not. Again no big deal because that is why it connects through USB, it transfers power and audio all through USB. Since this headset is USB, it does not in any way even use your systems' onboard sound card/codec.

For PC, all u should need to use is the included USB 2.0 cable. Then power on both power buttons on the Receiver, then power on the Headset. Now it should be fairly well charged right out of the box, but if not plug the Headset into the Receiver with a 2nd USB cable in order to charge it.

Once you get it connected and drivers installed, u will want to update the headsets' firmware from ASTRO; which is located here > https://www.astrogaming.com/firmware/firmware.html

Thank you ;) This seems like it will work, I'm going to try it first thing tomorrow (getting sleepy xD) because right now my A50's are in their package, Thanks again ;)
Yes please try it out right away. And keep the boxing and receipt as there are alot of issues reported by A50 owners that the Mic doesn't work or that it performs very poorly. So yes try it out quick as you can and then determine whether or not to return it. If you end up returning it, I highly suggest the A40 headset.

Yeah A40's are my plan B, I have to say, I've had a turtle beach wireless headset before, and it turned out awfully, so basically the whole time I've been waiting for this all to fall apart and planning for it.
I just tried it following your instructions, I can hear faint whitenoise depending on the headphones volume and I can hear the audio that the headphones make to indicate low charge/turn on/turn off. I can't hear any actual media though.
Go through the "connect" process on the headset as per ASTRO's instructions. If you are hearing "white noise" then u either do not have a good wireless connection or they are just not connecting at all to the receiver. But again u may need to charge them first and fore-most.

You've just given me hope xD trying it now
We did it!!! :D:D thank you so much
In Windows, be sure to look through the settings for Audio (Playback and Recording) as if u want to make any changes, u would have to do that for the Headset seperately, as it will not use any settings from your system's onboard sound.

Yeah, I read through the instructions thoroughly and I got them to work
Ok well I would test the mic out with someone online, such as Skype or through Steam, or even in a game and then ask for feedback from the other persons(s) on it's overall sound quality. As it is no good if it's received sound is going in/out, like alot of A50 users have had problems with.
