Monitor vs TV performance - Why do my games seem to run better on my TV?
I have been noticing since march (when I upgraded my PC and changed monitor) that some games, most games even - main culprits have been Cod Ghosts, Skyrim, Battlefield 3/4 and Batman Arkham Origins so much (so that I don't even play those games while using my monitor) seem to run smoother with and with no visible framerate issues on my tv.

The monitor is an Alienware 2210, the TV is a Sony Bravia KDL-32EX403 - both run at native 1080p.

When I measure framerate using Fraps or the Radeon Pro app for the most part I get 60fps running maxed out on all these games (except Cod which I don't max out to ensure higher framerate).

Sorry to ramble. The issue that I'm seeing on my monitor is that it looks like the framerate is dropping and when the framerate does go below 60fps the game looks like complete crap, where as on the TV it can drop to about 50fps before I start declaring the game unplayable - make no mistake on the monitor when it goes below 60fps, and even sometimes when it doesn't the game can look unplayable.

I am unhappy with the performance I seem to get on this monitor and with my old computer on the old monitor I don't remember seeing any issues like this.

Ultimately the question is, should I sell on this monitor and get a different one so that I can actually play games on it ? I have also found that the monitor hurts my eyes during gaming sessions where my old monitor did not and my tv does not.

System Specs
AMD FX 6350 3.9/4.2ghz
AMD RadeonHD 7950 (Stock Clocked at 800mhz <core> 1250mhz <memory>)

The monitor has a refresh rate of 60Hz and the TV has a refresh rate of 50Hz. That may explain why they suddenly don't look right to you when you reach those thresholds.

They both have a refresh rate of 60hz - sorry should have made that clear.
32EX403 is 50Hz all the way

Also Bravia Engine has some kind of image processors which may smoothen the feeling.

Are you sure about that?

Resolution 1920 x 1080 pixels. 50Hz.

If it was 50hz then why is it detected as a 60hz monitor by my computer? - I mean some of these games I'm playing came out before the graphics card / processor so surely I shouldn't be unhappy with the performance I'm getting. Is it just that AMD is ♥♥♥♥? Seriously, my old intel 2.3ghz q8200 and Nvidia Geforce 9600 never had any problems like this, and that's even going up to this year.

Windows assumes nothing less than 60Hz for an LCD monitor. Your TV is taking care of that.

Your system seems pretty good, so it has to be something regarding drivers, video settings, power or temperatures.

and tvs blend frames together
60hz input is being displayed at 50hz

when blended or moting smoothing it will look smoother

So is the simple answer here that TVs are better given that my gameplay is more enjoyable on the TV?
No. TV blurs image and usually has horrodenous input lag.

Also PPI is awful (too small resolution for big screen)

So should I go with an Nvidia card then if I am not happy with my framerate from this one? Seriously never had issues like this on my old Intel/Nvidia machine. - Appreciate all these comments btw.
