Are the RTX 5080 and 5090 safe to use?
Do you keep a fire extinguisher handy when you use either of these?

I've been reading that these two might melt like expensive ice creams if you don't plug the cable in properly.

Congrats on picking one up at msrp.

Was it a pre-order card?

Yeah I want to the Nvidia launch event at SCAN and for turning up you could order any 5090 at MSRP, they only had 25 in stock and I was about 70 deep into the queue, they had about 100 5080's so loads went away happy with them at MSRP, well as happy as you can be at a steep price.
What is MSRP over there for 5090? Our MSRP is ridiculous because everything goes through distributors and they are the ones that set street prices and their cut is 30% or more.

Im still paranoid about the ROPs, stores have crap refund policies and I hate dealing with returns to begin with..
I hate ordering online stuff still so much.

I don't keep the fire extinguisher handy. I don't need to as I don't have one of these cards.

you never need a fire extinguisher *for a pc

the only hazard is plastics melting and smoke
no flames, or anything that the fire extinguisher could do anything about at all

Not technically true, a lot has to fail, but any time electricity is involved there is a chance of fire, the odds are very, very low, but never truly zero.

Between 2K and 2.5K but stores are pricing higher when in stock now but not quite as bad as some places iv'e noticed.

$3400 at a MicroCenter near me in the USA for a 5090. :steamlaughcry:
I sometimes leave my computer on overnight, which is why I went for a 9070 XT this generation.

Vs a... 5070ti which uses less power under load and pretty much the same at barely anything at idle?

Well, as long as long as you got it at a good price is all that matters.

It helps to use less power when you have missing ROPs.

Chances are you'll never see one of those cards, especially now and they willingly replace them.

It's just funny how people scream about how much power nvidia uses until amd uses more then they don't care.

I don't care about power draw, I just find it funny.

Do ROPs use much power, or do they just create a bottleneck that causes the CUDA cores to stall?
