Steam deck sucks
I bought one around Christmas Refurbished and immediately the Y button was stuck down which breaks the menus because it won’t stop registering. I sent it off and waited 3 weeks. As soon as I got it back I realized that any game over 20gbs struggles to download saying “corrupt update file”. The only way I found around this is to make sure the screen doesn’t close which is made harder by the fact that the deck ALWAYS freezes to the point you need to reboot. I finally get a game downloaded and i ♥♥♥♥ you not it crashes like a Xbox 360 towards the end of it’s lifespan. I have had to do factory resets from boot menus three times because it broke and got stuck on black screens. I asked if I could get a replacement or refund and because I waited for 3 weeks of repairs I was out of my return window. Total crap DO NOT BUY! I can’t run the Witcher 3”verified”,Metro exodus “Verified” or Red Dead 1 “playable” so the testing they have obviously isn’t that accurate. In short my $150 refurbished thinkpad is basically a comparable machine.

You're never alone when you go looking. I could say that using doors is hard, and I'm sure there is a support group somewhere out there in this vast world where they gather to support others that have issues with doors. Does it open inward? Outward? What if I turn the handle the wrong way?? Ah, just too unpredictable!

Jokes aside, issues always happen with any product. The more complex it is, the more likely to occur. Perfect doesn't exist in life, as much as some fool themselves into believing it.

Steam support is like any other support, just some minimal wage entry level job. They don't actually know the product. You could get someone that is passionate about Valve that took the job because they like Valve products and may be knowledgeable, or you could just get someone that didn't want to work at McDonald's. Either way, they have specific troubleshooting steps they have to follow.

Could it be your WiFi? Absolutely. Could be anything from MAC filtering to signal interference. Try it on a different network, then reply with the results. Once you humour their scripted troubleshooting, if it isn't fixed, then they should replace under warranty.

FYI, you could also just skip it all and tell them what they need to know, they click all the buttons on their troubleshooting program, and get you a replacement.

You could say something like this:

"Thank you for looking into this issue for me. I appreciate it!

I tried on another network and it is still having the same exact issue. The other network is a completely different modem, router, and location.

Also, the device is still freezing up and crashing. I've tried all the steps in the Steam Deck help guide to no avail.

I would like to formally request a replacement as this would appear to be another lemon. I'm just so eager to get back into gaming, thank you in advance!"

Agreed. I don’t have any tech problems with the Steam Deck but the software is trash and it’s annoying to use. I installed a mod to play games from Epic Games and Amazon and, because games update constantly, it screws up the mod. The last time it decided to delete all the games I had installed.

It’s another loser for Valve. The fanboys are too blinded to admit the Steam Deck sucks.

You should be able to. Every electronic device has a one-year warranty. Contact Steam Support and don’t take no for an answer. If they keep giving you the runaround complain to your state’s attorney general.
as a steam deck user who was skeptical of getting it because of comparing it to my pc, i think the issue is your refurbished, not the steam deck in general, i have been quite impressed with the steam decks capability
Valve provided complete disassembly walkthroughs and 3d print files for the parts, so you could replace that button yourself if need be.

Why go through all that bother? Valve sold OP a broken piece of crap. It’s still under warranty. They can deal with it.

Most people have great experiences with the Steam Deck because they don't try to run garbage software from Epic or Amazon with it. Does the fact the Steam Deck is called the STEAM Deck not make clear to you how you're supposed to use it to have the best experience?

Corporate bootlickers are cringe.

Even without trying to run third-party software, the Steam Deck is poorly designed. The symmetrical thumb sticks are too high and too far apart, the back buttons are completely useless and so flat you can't even press them comfortably. They should stick out like the triggers do.

But since you're praising the actual Steam part of the machine, the SteamOS is garbage too that's annoying to navigate with the thumb sticks. The battery life is a complete joke and the thing is too big and heavy. I have big hands, I should love holding this thing, but I don't.

The novelty of playing PC games on a handheld wears out fast and the cons are too many too ignore.

By the way, Valve doesn't care about me. They don't care about you either.
I don't know about that. My rule is that I don't buy any dedicated gaming hardware. That includes consoles and Steamdeck. If it has no value outside of gaming, it's not for me.

You got a lemon, so all are lemons? Not the best logical conclusion. Since yours was refurbished, contact the seller for a replacement.

I love my Steam Deck. Zero complaints.

You say the software is terrible and annoying to use, but then give an example with Epic Game and Amazon, which are completely unrelated to the Steam OS. Blaming Steam OS for issues with mods and third party platform updates is illogical.

*sigh* calling people bootlickers is quite cringe.

You don't think the controler layout is comfortable. That is fair, not everyone likes the same kind of controllers. I had a friend that liked the N64 controller, and no he didn't have 3 hands. I personally find the Steam Deck control layout to be almost perfect for me. To each their own.

I agree, battery life isn't that great. But then again, all the devices in this category have similar battery, or worse. I usually play it at home, so plugging it in is no biggie. For travel, I have a battery bank that I always bring with me anyways and it can charge the deck multiple times.

All companies care about you. Well, about your money, that is. Even companies that try to appeal to their customers and make them happy, it all comes down to the money. If someone is saying any company puts customers first, then that marketing team was successful.

Steam Deck is ultimately just a Linux laptop. It has a desktop mode, which lets you use Arch Linux like you would on any other PC.

I've used my deck for a lot more than just playing games. Even played around with coding Python and HTML5 on it. Just need a USB hub or wireless keyboard/mouse. Or if you hate yourself, you can use the on screen keyboard.

What? That doesn't make any sense. Hardware is meant to run software as long as it is able to, regardless of where it's from.

But it also makes no sense because there's plenty of people that have other issues with the Steam Deck, like battery shorting and other issues which is why I have it on my "SKIP" list.

lol
Let's run a third party software and go through the awesome process of inmutable(!) Linux distro, but never fix the actual problem.
