Running Civ 7 on a Mac using a Windows 11 Pro 64 bit emulator- mac is MW Max
Trying to get Civ to run, it loads, runs for a few seconds and then quits, I am able to run Albion with this machine in steam on Windows emulation.

Doing this as I cannot for the life of me get steam to run in Mac OS- will keep on checking suggestions for that.

No Proton/WINE on Mac?

not sure what that is. It is an M2 Max pro chip
It's what Steam uses to run Windows games on Linux (including Steamdeck).

The Steam Deck is x86-64, The M series Macs, M1, M2, M3 etc refer to Apples homegrown ARM64 processor. As far as I know Valve hasn't done anything to support ARM platforms yet. So I wouldn't expect Proton to work on ARM yet. Not to mention Mac's aren't running Linux, which is what Proton/WINE is for.

Although https://www.pcguide.com/news/valve-reportedly-working-on-arm64-proton-compatibility-layer-for-linux-gaming/ ARM support is inevitable. But I don't think MacOS is going to be a focus.

Also OP, have you tried the Mac forum? https://steamcommunity.com/discussions/forum/2/

Also looking at Civ7 it already supports M1 and beyond macs natively. Why don't you install and run the Mac version?

Minimum:
Requires an Apple processor
OS: Sequoia
Processor: M1 8 Core
Memory: 8 GB RAM
Graphics: M1
Storage: 25 GB available space

Recommended:
Requires an Apple processor
OS: Sequoia
Processor: M2 Pro 10 Core
Memory: 16 GB RAM
Graphics: M2 Pro
Storage: 25 GB available space
Why not just install that game on MacOS? It's is supported but let me tell you. This game is far is terribly bugged and will require time passed for fixes.

That's not good. For Mac users. But I guess some work is being done to fix this issue. Obviously the performance will be lower, but unless the game is CPU hungry maybe the situation will be not as bad.
WHO uses Mac in 2025? WHY?

Thanks for all the replies. i can't get Steam to even load on my Mac, despite trying various fixes I have located online. Thus the attempt to run it on my virtualisation platform. I'll keep poking around for Mac fixes I guess.
Rumor is Valve is planning on dropping support for the Mac Steam Client entirely sometime around their next hardware launch.

Right now there’s only a skeleton crew of contractors (Valve does not have a single Mac in their HQ) working on maintaining the client, and the amount of contractors has been steadily reduced over the past few years.

That’s why the Mac Steam Client is so buggy. The contractors are not permitted to fix “minor” issues.

You should expect to either stop using Steam in the medium to near future or buy a PC to continue playing games on Steam.

Is there any way to buy the client outside of steam? I got Civ 6 from the Apple App store
