Not buying a GPU. Staying with my 3060 12GB. MIght even stop gaming on PC and go back to consoles
Both AMD partners and Nvida can take a hike if they think they can charge me a thousand quid for a Mid-tier GPU.

I am not spending more than 3 times the cost of my computer for a GPU.

You are killing the duck in the egg.

No one forces you to do whatever other people do or Marketeers try to force you to do by manipulating you with marketing strategies.
If you know what you want and need you don't even need to create a "bait topic" for this.

A passive or patient customer is nowadays a great customer. Wait, be on the look out, watch tests or other people's opinions with the products you are interesting in (of course avoid influencers enslaved by corpo and hanging on their leech).

All prices will come down one day or another.....exactly like the US government and Tesla.

You just need patience....that's all.

Simple example (my case):

I have a 3080 10 GB. I don't need more and I am happy being able to run all modern games to the max. Simple.

GTX 980 blows the 5080 out of the water playing PhysX games.
I'm glad I kept two GTX 980 gpu's.

It is a terrible time to buy a GPU.

I am sticking with the RTX 3080 for now.

The new AMD cards are very popular.

Hopefully it will ensure many game developers use the latest FSR upscaling.

I am also keen to see how reflex 2 works out.

Switch to console gaming - no thanks.

So a choice of paying more upfront for hardware, or for the games themselves with awful lock in & service terms.

Why obsess over the latest and greatest when what you have now will do just fine?
Buy or don't buy whatever you want but I find the "get a console" argument stupid.

Lower resolutions

lower framerates

no mods

no settings to control

no remapable controls

only play the games Sony/Microsoft has licensed

higher priced games

pay to play online

no gaming if XBL or PSN is down

crappy backwards compatibility

no upgradability

no repairability

etc etc.

Like, if you need a better card it doesn't have to be amazing just good enough.

Want an affordable upgrade? Buy used, something like a 6800xt or higher will do just fine.

Cant afford an upgrade you want? Well congrats! That means you also can't afford a console.
Yesterday i went to a computer store because i am returning back a used GTX 1650 OC i bought from them didn't work with an old setup, while i am there i kept looking at some GPUs they have, i asked on Facebook about few models, after all and weak thinking i came back home with 3050 8GB version [from INNO3D], a bit old, but i bought it because it was second cheaper price and i wanted to use for my third new build which doesn't need any expensive pricey insane Nvidia/AMD current carts, i can wait for my first main build later, now i can play most of my old games until i come to some of current games, hopefully that time some current cards prices going down and scalpers will stop.

At the end of the day, gaming is a non-essential task. There isn't any reason to spend money you don't have to when gaming, ever. If you don't like the price, then simply skipping is always the best option.

Also, take a look at the games that require top end hardware -- are they really that great? Most of them are unoptimised slop that runs poorly on even top of the line consumer hardware -- and they charge you a premium to gain access for the privilege of experiencing that poor performance.

So what exactly are you paying for? An expensive GPU to play expensive games that run poorly?

That's before we get into how games have gone backward in nearly every aspect post-pandemic. But let's not discuss that since this is the HARDWARE section and I would write a literal book describing how garbage the game industry is right now.

I am happy you mentioned it, because i like gaming, but i don't "LIKE SPENDING" money on it when i have other things in life more important than gaming, and through years it didn't help me in anything, the worst thing is that people keep paying a lot or premium amount so that keep scalping and milking people, at the end what will happen, nothing really, it is like spending money on other things that will destroy health or whatever believing it was fun or spending time, but anyway, not going further, but the gaming industry became like a mining industry of people pockets, i really enjoyed gaming long long time ago when things were standard, now things is like so insane, before $1000 computer is considered as high end, now $1000 is a budget setup, it is even not enough to buy one powerful GPU to make games playable, something went wrong in my opinion.

It is probably smart to see what is available at what cost.
What I have now is OK, but not great.

It is worth it due to the price of GPUs.
If I can get a decent and reasonably long lasting GPU for the cash, could be interested.

My understanding is the features are mainly software, but useful.
Also it seems lots of VRAM is a must.

That is what I have discovered.

Just don't buy current gen stuff.

if you are smart, you use the pricing to your advantage.. i sold my 4090 FE for basically the same price that i purchased it for, then upgraded to the latest. granted the price of them has gone up slightly, but if you're smart, you can literally upgrade every other year for almost nothing. just stay away from AMD, resale value is garbage. stop being a cheap sake and buy something good that holds value, otherwise cheap in, cheap out.. buy something that isn't entry-level and go for enthusiast level hardware so it's not obsolete in a year. you wanna play, then you gotta pay.. or find a new hobby.

I just spend $100 because it is my hobby. I'm going to buy an Intel ARC GPU because it is my hobby.

That sounds great but getting a 5090 at msrp is basically impossible. Especially outside of US. You need to be super lucky or have connections to pull this off. And if you able to make it happen you can literally turn it into a scalping business.
You made Steam and Nvidia cry. Not go buy Wukong as apology
Also - you can stop playing PC right now
Also - there is no point of consoles - non-upgradeable boxes with 1/100 games compared to Steam
