Best screen for color-grading and gaming?
Hi, I recently started working full-time as a video editor and my current screens do not suffice for the color grading work i need to do. I am also an avid gamer and would like this screen to be good for gaming too,

I currently have a Ryzen 7 5700x, 32gb ram @ 4000mhz and 1060 6gb(next upgrade after monitor-4070ti is looking like my next card..)
I ideally would like a screen that wont break the bank, is ideally 1440p (4k would suffer with my gpu?) 100hz+ for gaming and a really good response time(I play a lot of cs 2 and fps games). and a really good color gamut. (sRBG, rec.709 ..etc)

I know sacrifices will have to be made due to hardware, and budget, but what would you guys recommend?

Thanks in advance.

Ok before myself and others chime in about Screens; can I ask why do you even want ANY RTX 40 series GPU right now? Especially with the RTX 40 series refresh coming, which will mean better GPUs at around the current prices, and might even push the old RTX 40 series ones down a bit; depending on what comes out and at what performance per pricing; etc.

AMD 7800 XT is $499 and 29-35% faster then 2080 Ti and slightly faster then 3080 Ti.
Basically coming in around the 4070 Ti ($799+) performance for much cheaper and with 16GB VRAM

Also what Motherboard and PSU do you have?

Honestly those tend to be two fairly different priorities for panels. A panel that is well suited for color grading is usually not going to have low response times and high refresh rate, etc. and panels that are targeted at gaming are typically not going to be great for color grading.

Would probably be worth trying to look at a mid-range panel targeted at color grading / photo editing and a second mid-range gaming monitor for your gaming display.

EDIT: most of the displays that are 100% sRGB and 100% REC 709 that are also low response and higher refresh rate are going to be well over $1500.

Decent display for color grading

Then you can get a decent gaming display for ~$350-$400 that’s 1440p 144Hz with VRR.

You didn't mention size or budget but the Aorus FV43U is by far the best monitor I've ever owned and I've owned a lot of high end displays.

43", 4k, 144hz, 1ms, hdr10, 150% sRGB, 99% Adobe RGB, 97% dci-p3 comes factory calibrated. My particular panel had a delta e of a hair over 1, you can spend thousands on "professional" displays that can't touch that. It currently runs about $700.

Waste of time looking at 4K anything.
You're not running no 4K above 60 unless you run RTX 4090

I would go look at 1440p (144Hz minimum) QLED or OLED

I would agree with this.

I have tried lots of gaming monitors and many of them sacrifice colour accuracy for speed. The only way you will get both is a QLED or OLED. And they will, unfortunately, break the bank.
There are some LCD displays that are very good, but they are just as expensive.
Once you see a QLED or OLED you will know immediately that noting else compares.

Plenty of good ones out there but TN, VA, IPS won't cut it. QLED and OLED can provide plenty of RGB accuracy, HDR 10 as well as Fressync Premium (can work as GSync also) and provide high refresh rates.

If it doesn't have both DP and HDMI 2.1 it's highly outdated

OP said they wanted a monitor for video editing, if you aren't looking at 4K you are doing it wrong. You can always run a 4K display at a lower resolution for gaming (the FV43U at 1440p is roughly equivalent to a 34" ultrawide just with back bars at the top and bottom).

heh not even 4090 is able to hit 60fps in some games with RT on and without dlss3 fake frames

Yep. Definitely don't go 4K. I made that mistake and you are locked in to buying top-end GPU's all the time. Best to stick to 1440p.

yeah the gpu is a later thing, not this year,

I have Asus x570Pro and 850W Gold+

Color grading would be first priority, I can always get a cheaper 144hz 1ms response gaming monitor at a later stage,

Saying dlss is fake frames is like saying a supercharger is fake horsepower.

I must say DLSS3, the jury is still out for me as well.

rtings does some nice thorough reviews of monitors and rate them for both video creation and gaming.

Might want to take a look and narrow down to what features you want.
