If it causes the game to crash, you need to change the view type in RTSS for the overlay. As not all games will get along with using the same type.
What I do, when that happens, is use the Afterburner graph. By that I mean, if I am concerned about temperatures or anything, I take a look after I played the game at the graph to see what was going on while I was playing.
Other than that I just wouldn't worry about it because ultimately if performance appears to be as expected and there's no glaring performance issues then there isn't anything to be concerned about. The actual numbers mean nothing, what matters is how the gameplay looks to the eye
It has multiple modes to choose from. Not all modes work with all games.
Games like CS:GO will always have stutters when frames drop for any reason, that's why you cap the framerate
