Would you reccomend an OLED monitor?
Thinking about getting the LG OLED monitor for Christmas, was wondering if anyone has one and if would be a big improvement over the same size 144mhz monitor.

Thanks in advance for any feedback on this.

if you want to replace it after a year or so, sure
or if its not a daily driver or on 24-7 expect screen burn after a year of use

for a tv, it wont be as bad since there are fewer static images on it
but for pc, taskbar, desktop icons and static stuff will burn much faster

image shift or burning inverted and overdriving burned led subpixels can reduce the visual effects of burn, but its still gong to burn and be there after years of use

I don't think that warranty includes burn-in and the company that offers it is notoriously bad.

I chat with an amazon employee or something, he said the monitor can go into repair shop or changed (most probably changed) or even refunded, i also said to him that this problem is not fixable...from his word should be ok but now that you said that im more afraid lol, still in time to cancel the order.

Ask him specifically if permanent image retention is covered? Amazon staffers are not always the most diligent.

i asked amazon and asked again the seller of the warranty..seems like they do not know what is that problem, in theory yes...practically i don't know.
I also explained what would be the problem..now im waiting for the next reply of the warranty seller.
How i see it it's a manufactory defect so it should be warranted.

Edit the warranty guy replied now.

For what he said i should have 2 year of warranty with samsung that includes burn in ( he never said that) and the warranty i purchased for 3 years ( which starts after the 2 of samsung.. what? Basically i have one year and i paid 3 ?? why ) is for damages and not defects...so if i will get a burn in ill take a hammer and send them back and ask for a refund or another g9... nice stupid way of warranty imo.

if your a casual gamer and dont mind throw away monitors sure.and the sacrifices you have
to make are to much imo.dim brightness no task bar,no desktop icons no long gaming sessions with static hubs, everything you do will affect the screen quality over time.so 2-4 hours a day would more than likely be a positive experience anything more probably not.
so if you buy the argument oled owners give go for it.they have far to many
limitations for me..as far as warranty and them replacing because of burn in on 100s if not thousands of monitors what do you think will happen when the time comes.it will be newegg with motherboards all over again.

If you can afford a nice OLED monitor, sure, just make sure you buy based on reviews, not the brand. Just keep in mind that OLEDs aren't very durable and can degrade in quality if you don't take measures to preserve it. OLED uses organic compounds that naturally degrade, and that process is faster if you just keep the brightness cranked and don't take any measures to protect it.

Try your local big electronics markets. Sometimes they include burn in. I bought my s95b from a similar market and they specifically told me that permanent image retention is included in the warranty.

I just got one. They're nice to be sure. Both HDR1000 and true black 400 are OK. They aren't the game changers people always claim they are. I'm no even sure I'd have HDR on at all if I had to toggle it on and off like you have to in Windows.

Honestly its up to you.

Go to costo and check out the HDR displays. IF you aren't wow'd then just grab an IPS gaming monitor and shoot for 240~360hz. In my personal opinion the higher refresh rate was worth more to me then going 4k or OLED.

The biggest one around me doesn't have anything good for pc users and they are a scam by themselves.

The ones like sells you an laptop with i7 blablabla at 2000Euro without telling you that this i7 is from the stone age.

No. They cost nearly as much as an oled TV and have less features. The extra fps are not going to help you win more matches. For sp saturating 240fps even with fg is difficult.

Instead I suggest you buy an s95b (qd oled) which has brilliant picture quality. If you want to see what true quantum dot can achieve then qd oled is the way to go.
WOLED has way slower burn in than QD OLED if you're going to play the same game for months on end with static hud elements I suggest a WOLED panel. I already had permanent burn in on a 32" QD oled 240hz just after 2 months of playing the same game, currently using LG 32" WOLED 240hz. I used a C3 (WOLED) before trying the QD OLED and had no burn in either. I believe QD OLED burns in faster than even the old WOLED panels.

Two years of static elements in one game on a qd oled and no burn in so idk.

Keep the brightness low for most of it or turn it off and use a 2nd monitor when not gaming

I bought mine 2 weeks ago, I would not recommend.

Did anyone who got burn in quickly on a qd-oled monitor refresh it when prompted 99.9% of the time and also refresh it right before powering down the pc? Did you keep your desktop clear and hide the Taskbar? What brightness were you using? 30%+ hdr?

When not running games I have the brightness at 0% above minimum. I can see it just fine and it's easy on my eyes when I want to wind down

For static imagery, you have to think of how many times that pixel is going to slightly change color due to opacity. If you can change the opacity in static hud elements in games then I would do that.

Don't have a static picture of anything on your desktop. Just have it be a color. I'd make it black or a dark grey.

Have power options shut off the monitor after 15 minutes. Don't leave windows open.

Get a cheap monitor that is not an oled for your second display to do text chat/typing/web browsing and keep the oled off when not in use.

This will undoubtedly increase the lifespan of the monitor without experiencing burn in as quickly, so if you take care of it you'll be fine

image burn on oled is partly bad led subpixels
refresh just burns the reverse burn image to the rest of the pixels to help hide the damage ones that were bad

it does not fix or repair the burned pixels, just burning more and reducing the overall brightness of the display

Delusional oled bros will still claim that it's a magical solution. Just like pixel shift lol. It only makes sense if the logo you are displaying is only 1 pixel wide and high. Then pixel shift makes sense but most logos are too big for it to make any difference.

Overall I wouldn't use oleds for anything but content consumption. For movies shows and games it's unparalleled but for anything static it's going to become obsolete in no time.
