Current mboard is Asrock x670e Steel legend on bios 2.08,any reason to update?
I don't have any plans on upgrading the cpu from the 7800x3d any time soon. So is there a need to upgrade the bios which is now at 3.10 non-beta?

Why? Does a new bios give you something? If you don't need what it offers and machine is running fine you can just leave it.

If you do choose to update then remember to also update chipset drivers.

wow.....first off its never just CPU support they are changing and second off chipset updates always need to be done regardless of current bios version......

look at the mobo info page, see if bios updates are important or needed for the newer cpu

https://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/X670E%20Steel%20Legend/index.asp#BIOS

or just grab the latest not beta bios

This can cause unforeseen performance or stability issues later on in different applications or even the OS itself. Always update to the latest BIOS version if it's an option. Only exception would be if the update itself has issues, it is best to check patch notes and make sure everyone else on forums was able to update without issue.

This is true. But a bios update does not always give benefit. ie; to benefit newer hardware you may not have. If a bios update is done then latest chipset drivers will have been updated to accommodate latest bios so they should be updated then.

I did not say that's the only time you should update drivers.

Not updating bios can cause issues, and then updating bios can cause issues?! can't have it both ways. There was absolutely nothing wrong with what i gave.

There's no stability issues with my rig or anything. Was just curious if updating was needed or not. I just built this thing back in March or so. So, IF any hardware gets upgraded, it'd be the gpu and nothing more.

Read the details of future bios updates.

Sometimes they fix various security flaws as well.

Updating it for the Agesa can still help as this tends to help with thread scheduling and such.

For now I wouldn't rush to update it. As there will probably still be future updates
