An upgrade from there is maybe going to be a new machine, how long do you think this one will last after you buy it?
It is second hand on FB market for $400 Canadian or about $281 US...
I'm upgrading from a good ol' GTX 750 Ti, i5 2400, 16 GB RAM so it's very exciting to me :)
I'm waiting to hear how much use it has and what it uses for storage.
I have some idea how to evaluate hardware but I only just learned in the last moth or so that bigger number don't always mean better, eg. GTX 1050 isn't better than GTX 970 so when I saw what to me was a deal to good to be true I thought I should ask around first.
My goal with this PC is to be able to play most/all current games and preferably the next couple years worth of games at low or medium setting or better.
Then again, if you kept a Sandy Bridge and a then-entry-level/low mid-range Maxwell for this long, you probably don't have high needs and you might be able to stretch this a lot longer. I'd generally say aim for a newer platform if longevity is a concern, but that's if you're willing to spend that much to begin with. For that price in USD, I'd say it's definitely worth it? Wait for someone familiar with Canadian options to weigh in and confirm or deny that though, but usually if it's worth it in in USD, it's more worth it elsewhere since everyone says pricing is always worse elsewhere.
The CPU has room for a Core i7 10700/11700 of some type later (or Core i9, but I'd forget those as the highest option is never worth buying second hand value-wise).
The GPU will have room for more, even with the CPU it has now. Need to know PSU though; worst case is you need to change that for some future GPUs.
You'll want to add 32 GB RAM later maybe, and again that can be done.
Storage should accommodate NVMe (and SATA) since it's LGA 1200.
