Windows 11 24H2 update breaks things

Installed the windows 24h2 update today, after Civilization V would not start. I made a restore point before installing the update. After running the restore Civilization V still wouldn't start. Thanks Microsoft.

yeah don't 24h2 is going down as the worst feature update microsoft released

people will get security updates till 25h1 so for majority just wait do not burn yourself

also restore points are kinda just a duct tape solution it is why i leave it off because it fixes things by reverting but unlike timeshift in linux mint it leaves residue of files and registry keys that leads to nowhere

you should have deleted it in the update history instead

It's a feature update, which means whole new OS.

Wipe your Drivers out with DDU in safe mode.

Reboot, download and install latest chipset and gpu drivers. Reboot when done.

Windows 11 is an unacceptable disaster. Either upgrade back to 10 or upgrade to linux.

My 24H2 update through Windows Update did not complete (I could say failed but nothing broke). After a couple of attempts to re-do the update, I got the update tool and it all worked perfick. I had to get DirectX again to run my Snowrunner though. Otherwise, nothing is broken for me.

Most of them, yes, and the list of games that don't keeps getting smaller. Primarily the problematic games are ones that have aggressive, kernel-level anti-cheat systems implemented.
