Windows 11 Update 24H2
I was out doing some holiday shopping this morning to come back and see my Windows 11 has updated to 24h2. I remember seeing issues with it when it first dropped. Did they fix them? I heard it slowed PC's down and messed with peoples internet connection.

If you did not want it yet, why did you leave Windows Updates enabled? That's all you bud.

MS will as of right how be auto updating everyone it can (who is on Win11) to 23H2 and then also 24H2 to keep the OS up to date for security reasons.

I mean, you're the one who said the update was optional, and look, now it isn't.

I'm SO glad I paused my updates forever, I'm never installing that garbage on my computer.
Well yea I know MS is getting ridiculous. It was optional but it's in the news now that MS is auto updating PCs to 23H2 and 24H2 if they are not already on it.

Optional or not, you still want WU Paused as long as possible when you not ready to do any of that. Eventually we all know staying on a certain OS means forced updates. Only Win10 or 11 LTSC gets you off the hook in that regard.

MS wants Win11 users on 24H2 before 23H2 officially expires in Oct 2025. Another reason for this push is the new security risk involving unsigned drivers and the unauthorized access that can bring.

Well, I won't be lol. I'm staying on 23H2 forever.

I mean, until a new Windows comes out.
I would just go learn Linux.
Win12 for consumers won't be here anytime soon. SteamOS 3.x should be available to public soon though

Nuh uh, not gonna have problems with my games.

Currently they all run perfectly, I don't want that to change.

Every time there's a problem that seems to have no solution in a game forum, it's a Linux user, every time.

User #1: I have X problem, what should I do?

User #2: Enter this 50 pages essay in the terminal and see if it works.

User #1: Didn't work.

And so on and so forth.

It's too much of a hassle to be worth it.

If you gave me the choice right now between having to use Linux, or being forced to install 24H2, I would take my chances with the crappy update.

????? Windows 11 does that????
On certain supported hardware, yes. The feature is called Windows Recall.

But it does not send the data anywhere at this time yet, but this may change whenever Microsoft wants it to.
It's installed on every machine that updates to the newest update. It's just """""nOt AcTiVe"" for now. Of course that will change whenever Microsoft wants.

And M$ absolutely will access that data "via telemetry" whenever they want.

After what Snowden revealed, a person would have to be insane to not think the US government is not going to be archiving that data the very second they think they can.

The best choice is to just switch to Linux. The Khazan Demo is already working perfectly on Linux, while being a stuttery mess on WIndows.

Do you have any proof of those accusations, when you are leaking data all over the Internet, even publicly, all the time?

You'd have to be extremely naive to believe otherwise. He's 100% correct.

Switching to Linux is the only real way to keep your data secure, but I'll admit I'm too lazy to learn and having to fix problems that will arise from playing on this OS is just a no no for me.

I want to install Windows, install my games, and start playing immediately. I don't want to have to troubleshoot for hours.

Apparently, only a "stub" is installed on ineligible devices, containing a few minimal runtime components, apparently due to sandboxing.
The stub is enough. That is proof that they are putting the supports in place to push it out to all machines eventually.

"Only the stub" is exactly what I meant by, 'It's just """""nOt AcTiVe"" for now.'

Look into Linux Mint. Even my elderly parents were able to use it with not help from me, other than showing them the "software store".

You have zero evidence of your claims, and I presume it is intended only to scare OP.
You just submitted the number 1 piece of evidence yourself. They are putting the stubs in place on every machine that gets the update. There is also the fact that those stubs and are a dependency for other essential functions in the OS, meaning that if you remove the stubs, you break your entire OS.
There's already user reports of Recall and other co-pilot features being automatically enabled by the OS during Windows updates without the user's consent, it's getting about that time for people to really take notice that Microsoft doesn't give a damn about what you want.

That doesn't mean the system compatibility checks or user consent have been obtained. Hence it is not evidence.

My understanding is that the Explorer dependency was a mistake but it may be something harmless like a shell extension to make it easier to access your data from the Explorer UI, but no Recall functionality of its own.
Prove that it was a mistake. Show the same amount of evidence for that belief that you are demanding from the rest of us.

For a while, the Recall feature was only available for PCs powered by Snapdragon X SoCs. Microsoft has finally decided to expand the preview for Recall to PCs powered by Intel and AMD. However, this feature will be limited to the newer CPUs that come with a 40 teraflops NPU.
The end user's opinion never matter to M$ to begin with.

Once again you are taking things way out of context. Does your CPU come with a 40TOPS+ NPU, and are you set up for Windows Hello Enhanced Sign-In Security?
No, I am just reading between the lines, whereas you are just going, "trust me, bro."

You haven't submitted a single piece of evidence for your belief. I have several.

1.) The Stubs are in every PC with the update
2.) The stubs are a dependency for core OS functions
3.) The feature was only supposed to work on Snapdragon chips, but M$ changed that without really advertising it
4.) M$ has a long history of changing people's privacy settings without their consent following an update
5.) Only PCs running an Enterprise version of Windows can completely opt out of telemetry, canse M$ doesn't care what you think, they believe that they have a right to your data
6.) People came up with a reg edit to disable telemetry, and M# put out an update of which its only purpose was to tell the OS to ignore that regedit

Etc. Etc. Etc.

There are tons of examples that support my point when even the tiniest amount of critical thinking is applied, and again, your only evidence is, "Trust me, bor, because reasons..."

I didnt. I've been ignoring these updates for over a week and itnjut forced it on it's own without my input

Currently running Windows 11 Enterprise N LTSC on my laptop, very stable, no added junk like home or pro.
