New Graphics Card and now won't boot up!! Help Please
I have a gateway DX 4870 running Windows 7 64bit. It has a PCI Express x16 slot and runs fine with a Radeon HD5450 in it. I got a new NVIDIA GeForce GT 630 and tried installing it and my computer want boot up into windows. I can't even get to the BIOS. After reading a lot I freshly installed windows, got thru all that and restarted. I installed new card and I get the same thing, no bootup, no safe mode. I tried putting in the old card and boom works fine. What the heck!!??? I need some help.

I had a similar issue going to my GTX970. After ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ with getting the drivers working and many other issues, I got to a point where it would do exactly as described above and shut off. Seemed like a power issue, which was frustrating because my power unit can supply enough juice to grow industrial quantities of pot.

Turns out that the instructions, which clearly state that you only need to plug in to one or the other of the power ports (either 4 or six prong, I believe) to work did not apply to my machine. I didn't catch this at first because the MSI leds lit up and the fans powered, and it seemed like it should have been working, not to mention the installation guide saying it would. Simple adaptor fixed it up.

I'm not familiar with the 630 or really know anything about putting in a GPU beyond what I describe above, but if you have two power plugins, you may have to use both. Adaptor is sold seperate, btw.

This gpu doesn't have a seperate power plug. It just pushes in the PCI express slot.
what is really happening, the computer does not boot or no monitor display?

if the computer has no boot error beeps, probably the psu cannot handle even the minimal power requirements of nvidia gt630 gpu or perhaps the pci-e slot of the motherboard is dead.

if there is no monitor display, perhaps the video cable is wrongly inserted into the motherboard video input/output. insert vga/dvi/hdmi to gpu and NOT mobo.

Also put the new card in a friends computer, and it worked fine. So new card is good.

This has happened to me before. For me it was my PSU not putting out all the power that my GPU needs in order to run. Seeing how it works on your friends PC, your best bet is to get different PSU and give that a go. Cheers. :candycane:
What brand is that 520W PSU? The cheapy brands are rated in PEAK power, which means that PSU might only be able to handle 300W continuously but SHOULD be able to handle an occasional 520W load. Generally good brands like Corsair and Seasonic are rated in CONTINUOUS power meaning they can handle their rated watts constantly. Also, how many amps does the PSU show on the 12v rail(s). Good PSUs will have at least 40 amps and often on a single 12v rail. They will also be rated at least 80 PLUS Bronze for efficiency. Windows 7 can still be UEFI, so double check your motherboard specs and how you can disable secure boot if you have it and enable legacy hardware. Best of luck... That's about all I can think of....
It's the secure boot setting, this is right from an Amazon review of your computer: "Video - The built in video will be just fine for home office and web surfing but my video conversion apps pretty much all choked on it. Video is probably the weakest link in this system's configuration. I replaced the video card with a 1 GIG Radeon HD 5450 Video Card, while not a great gaming card it more than meets my video processing requirements and provided a very nice performance boost. FYI, upgrading the video card requires disabling ----->"Secure Boot" <-----in the BIOS otherwise you just get a black screen."
hi i had the same prob with an msi r9 270x and could not get it to work at all, tryed it in a friends and work fine.i sent it back and got an asus r9 270x and worked.compatabilty issue.

It will not boot. It shows what I stated above.
There is not an option for secure boot on this BIOS!
Have you tried looking up the beep-code it sends you? It should be noted in your motherboard manual, and could give a hint as to what goes wrong! :)
Do us all a favor and provide as much information as possible regarding your system components. If you don't know how to get them, download and run this for CPU, motherboard, amount of RAM, etc. Also, give us the exact make and model of power supply.

Okay Burd!, I'll obviously take your word for it, it was just odd that a reviewer of the same model of system mentioned it. Good luck finding the real problem.
How long did u let the power stay on? When I recently changed a GPU in a customers machine (I never really paid attention much b4) from a GTX 560 to a GTX 970; that 1st boot afterward was longer for some reason; took about 10-15 secs of having power on with nothing on-screen. Then finally the BIOS/Boot Screen appeared. After that though, no such delays upon boot-ups.

I left out a little, didnt know if all of the report would fit. Let me know if anything else is needed. Power supply is brand new WT520w

Again keep in mind that I install the Radeon HD4550 without drivers or anything, the computer will come on boot up like normal.
