its time to upgrade
if you just want a gpu, get a 750ti
will be fine with the stock power supply and will run games at 1080 mid+ settings
any game capable of the c2d will be fine maxed
imho, save up for a pentium g, i3, i5 build for gaming
will need a new cpu, mobo, case, ram
you might be able to reuse the os, drives from the current build
Straight dual cores are slowly fading away ^.

Lots of games and cpu performance to sift through ^.
Just get a new better vid card (possibly psu also) now then deal with the rest of the tower when $$$ allows.
I'd suggest r9 280 and up or GTX 770 and up if you're planning on a cpu/mobo upgrade soon but if you're not upgrading the mobo / cpu ever then the 270 / 270x would do.
Ps, measure the inside of the tower to see what size card it'll take.
source games only need 2 cores, when the next hl/source engine is released it may use more
amd mandle api will use more cores, thats why it helps amd cpus with amd gpus more than intel cpus with amd gpus
Sort of but not really ^ it's point based.
good: zotac, galaxy, his, sapphire, sparkle, powercooler
avoid pny
on a 750/ti, 1g is enough vram, 2g will allow for higher settings, but fps will suffer at those settings
