GTX 970m is more than enough for that to game on at high/ultra settings, also will get another performance boost with DirectX 12 to yet be released. Staying at those resolutions, it's would be extremely future proofed for years to come. This is the best performance to cost ratio graphics card of 2014.
Multiple monitors or higher resolutions, then the GTX 980m will start to kick in and make it more worthwhile. If you are planning on upgrading displays or attaching more monitors, then consider this.
i believe gtx 970m would have trouble in running big AAA games in the future
Dynamic Super Resolution (DSR):

That could impact your gaming performance more, but you can just set the resolution back to normal under the game if desired or any issues.
GTX 980m would be overkill for 1080p!
What did you mean by "can't upgrade in the future"? Like cant upgrade the gfx card or memory or cpu or storage? Because as much as I know you can upgrade them all.
Not on that laptop.
MSI gaming laptops lets you upgrade the GPU. but the CPU is soldered to the motherboard.
It will depend entirely on the laptop, if you can upgrade the graphics card later on or if it's soldiered into place. Upgrading a CPU and GPU in a laptop is a lot more effort than a PC Desktop.
Thanks for correcting me! :)
