I doubt that. It's the same number of conductors over higher gauge bits of metal than twin six pin with four minipin arrangement Nvidia uses for most 40 series cards, plus it's definitely enough for the 7900 xtx, which uses twin 8 pins.
Moreover, the P.S.U. adapters currently on the market connect 2 8 pin connectors to the 12+4 diddly deal Nvidia has going on anyway, and if I recall correctly the adapters aren't melting on the twin 8 pin side. . .
No actually it's 3x 8pin from PSU to the adapter.
Yes there are plenty of higher end GPUs that need 3x 8pin; some of the 7900 XT and XTX are among a few, depending on the exact brand + model.
That's not reference design. The founder's edition uses twin six pins[www.legitreviews.com]. I suppose that hinges somewhat upon how you define a card and what's needed by it though.
Edit:
Eh? This looks like 2x8 to me.[www.pcinvasion.com]

Power connector talk - 17:14
other gpus that need around 600w can use 3x pci-e 6+2 connectors
pci-e 6+2 connectors are rated at 150w ea, but are really good for 250-300w ea, alot of overhead
and the mobo can deliver 75w to the pci-e x16 slot
the adapters are like this

and its the 3090 ti that use 3x pci-e 6+2, not the vanilla 3090
"If the leaks are true " That's the key ("If the leaks are true " ) IMO pump the breaks the cards not out or really any info confirmed as the norm with these types of releases. Plus Haters gonna hate. I hear this every time a new generation of card (specifically Nvidia) is on the horizon. I'm pretty positive Nvidia does not want to sell a product that wont fit or cool or work. Make sure your case is big vented proper and you have the correct PSU. This is PC building 101 " Cheap is not good and good is not cheap" Imagine someone mic dropping (it's me btw)

I'll take the manufacture of the things word over Corsair marketing department making stupid pictures....
letting things like a case hold you back in 2024.. lol. i went custom wall mounted open air years ago and never looked back. between high end HVAC filters and robovac on a schedule, dust is almost non-existent. people make this stuff more work than it has to be.
so enjoy paying 2000 dollars for something that isnt even twice as fast as previous gen.
ive seen the specs and its not looking good for nvidia while while amd is getting ready to stomp a mud hole in their ass the generation after RDNA with multi die gpus.
They are coming out with a gputhat has 3 dies. now just imagine what that will do to nvidia if all the dies are half the size of their halo gpus.
this would make it in theory 50% faster and nvidia wouldnt have an answer.
Nvidia relies too much on software features and its going to bite them. also keep hoping nvidia goes multi die to counter amd because it isnt happening because they havent even gone with an MCM design yet and next gen wont be one either.
enjoy kids....

i dont know if this is being mentioned, or if it even matters.
