THe RTX 5000 series is gonna be a flop and heres why.
If the leaks are true nvidia is coming out with a 16 pin power connector wich is devestating news for anyone that prefers nvidia over amd because that means these cards are going to be too big to fit in anyones case and over heating will also become an issue.

Now i can understand why amd is making no high end cards next gen because why even bother.

This definitly has to do with diminishing returns of shrinking the node as they arent getting the same uplift they used to so they have to make up the slack by making the cards bigger.

You are absolutely clueless. Smaller process notes doesn’t just equate to “more power”. Generally smaller process nodes result in less loss / power waste for a number of reasons. GPU power changes are a design choice balancing power:performance:die size. Hence why the same die on a smaller process node (e.g. a die shrink) generally use less power.

The actual graphics card for the 30 and 40 series is significantly smaller than earlier cards going back to the GTX 200 generation. My liquid cooled 3090 is tiny in comparison to my 2080, 1070, 970, 780 Ti etc. There are still a plethora of options across the product segments that don’t have large heatsinks on them.

“Is there a way to ditch the big heatsinks…” yeah, it is called a custom water cooled loop.

2 8 pins is not enough for some gpu's

I doubt that. It's the same number of conductors over higher gauge bits of metal than twin six pin with four minipin arrangement Nvidia uses for most 40 series cards, plus it's definitely enough for the 7900 xtx, which uses twin 8 pins.

Moreover, the P.S.U. adapters currently on the market connect 2 8 pin connectors to the 12+4 diddly deal Nvidia has going on anyway, and if I recall correctly the adapters aren't melting on the twin 8 pin side. . .

I mean my 3090 has 3 8 pin connectors

No actually it's 3x 8pin from PSU to the adapter.

Yes there are plenty of higher end GPUs that need 3x 8pin; some of the 7900 XT and XTX are among a few, depending on the exact brand + model.

That's not reference design. The founder's edition uses twin six pins[www.legitreviews.com]. I suppose that hinges somewhat upon how you define a card and what's needed by it though.

Reference designs are always worse cooling wise

Here are two video showing problems with 12pin connector. One is from an expert explaining that the safety margin is to thin and another one from a gamer perspective. Some GPUs have a red warning led light when something is not right with the connector.

thats the new problematic connector
other gpus that need around 600w can use 3x pci-e 6+2 connectors

pci-e 6+2 connectors are rated at 150w ea, but are really good for 250-300w ea, alot of overhead
and the mobo can deliver 75w to the pci-e x16 slot

the adapters are like this
https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/71-MWE8tZSL._SL1500_.jpg

and its the 3090 ti that use 3x pci-e 6+2, not the vanilla 3090

From what I’ve heard you still need to use 8pin connectors for the converter added to NVIDIA GPUs. Using any other converter or cable than the NVIDIA’s one may void the warranty.

"If the leaks are true " That's the key ("If the leaks are true " ) IMO pump the breaks the cards not out or really any info confirmed as the norm with these types of releases. Plus Haters gonna hate. I hear this every time a new generation of card (specifically Nvidia) is on the horizon. I'm pretty positive Nvidia does not want to sell a product that wont fit or cool or work. Make sure your case is big vented proper and you have the correct PSU. This is PC building 101 " Cheap is not good and good is not cheap" Imagine someone mic dropping (it's me btw) :steammocking:

4090 was awesome sawesome and i'll have a 5090 day 1 paid courtesy of NVDA :takemymoney:

letting things like a case hold you back in 2024.. lol. i went custom wall mounted open air years ago and never looked back. between high end HVAC filters and robovac on a schedule, dust is almost non-existent. people make this stuff more work than it has to be.

have fun paying 2000 dollars for only a 50% performance bump in raster because it will only have 30% more cores than the 4090 andnot to mention going down to 3nm is only about a 20% performance boost lol and maybe even not that but 15%.

so enjoy paying 2000 dollars for something that isnt even twice as fast as previous gen.

ive seen the specs and its not looking good for nvidia while while amd is getting ready to stomp a mud hole in their ass the generation after RDNA with multi die gpus.

They are coming out with a gputhat has 3 dies. now just imagine what that will do to nvidia if all the dies are half the size of their halo gpus.

this would make it in theory 50% faster and nvidia wouldnt have an answer.

Nvidia relies too much on software features and its going to bite them. also keep hoping nvidia goes multi die to counter amd because it isnt happening because they havent even gone with an MCM design yet and next gen wont be one either.

wow every one is clueless.....they will short the run on GPUs do to the fact any line that could produce a 5090 will end up make AI chips.....

enjoy kids....
