Zorin OS
Is anyone here using it? Is it any good for gaming?
What all apps does the pro version come with?
Is the Core version good for gaming and daily use?

Which one would you recommend that is like Zorin but fully up to date?
Kubuntu. The latest version, not the LTS one. And keep it updated.

it's only good till July, then the updates stop and I assume would need to get the next version.
The LTS is good with updates til 2025.

You can just run a normal update and jump to the future 24.04 release. Updates on Linux are not as painful as on Windows.

The LTS is based on super old software from 2022.

maybe offtopic...

hi,
as far as i can see, i dont know everything, there are two types of linux: the redhat(.rpm archives) thing and the debian (.deb archives) thing. to me this is a kind of philosphy, because i am not into linux a lot, but i just had a chat with microsoft bing copilot. i asked some questions and i care about linux in common since the year 2000 or whatever. i think, that i really dont know, but maybe somebody else can explain or chat about, what i want to say?
btw: Zorin OS is .deb like ubuntu...as far as i can see.
i do not insist on, that i am right. i just wanted to mention, what i have been writing.
thx for reading.

Binary installers are frowned on.

Most software is installed by the package manager or flat/snap packs and occasionally .py scripts. Or the DIY folks who download the raw source code, tweak to taste and then compile for themselves.

Since I know nothing about Linux etc, what are you on about? :)

Then I'd aim for something a bit more up-to-date than Zorin, like the latest version of Ubuntu or Endevour OS.

Endevour's latest apparently came out in Nov whereas Zorin's was Dec.
Dosen't matter for EndeavourOS if you use the online installation. It's going to download the most up-to-date packages.

It was a response to the other guy talking about deb and rpm, which are the format in which Debian and Red Hat packages are shipped, kinda line .exe installers on WIndows.

He is basically saying that you should never install software using installers or packages you downloaded from untrusted sources on the internet like you do on Windows. Always use the package repositories, or "app store".

i wanted to mention the "askubuntu" thing. these are manuals für .deb (debian based) linux versions and "askubuntu" is great. i found any solution for my ubuntu, which i use from time to time.
zorin OS is also debian related, as far as i know and one could use "askubuntu" to answer the questions a .deb-user has....installing software and such. "sudo apt-get install xyz-software" and so on and on...if you know what i mean?

So far, Zorin OS is the only other distro that stands out to me, at least visually.

Linux Mint Cinnamon is a good recommendation too. It's not a visual spectacle but it still looks nice and is perfectly functional.

Is Hynotix similar to Kodi?

Not even sure what you are talking about. I'm gonna assume those are softwares I don't use.

Hynotix seems to be a part of Linux Mint Cinnamon.
Kodi covers Windows, linux etc.
Both allow the user to watch tv etc.

Also, just how secure is the OS? I currently use Bitdefender.
