ATX Motherboard
This is new to me, Is it common or acceptable? I bought a pc online, it was assembled and shipped. When I got it, the PC had a small 9"x 9" motherboard with only 2 dram slots.
The website said the Motherboard was an ATX with 4 dram slots. No reply from the dealer, ME. I do not see how it can be a mistake assuming that their assembly team were pros and there was some form of checking/testing. They have several stores and years of sales. Is this common?
thanks

Using cheapest garbage motherboards is how those assembly stores make money.
The unholy trinity is cheap garbage motherboard, cheap slow RAM and cheap PSU that will probably blow up in your face.
It's common for resellers that are just in it for a quick profit and don't care about their customers because their main goal is to rip people off, but for actual retailers, it's not common. Mistakes happen, but with resellers, you can never really tell.

I've had good customer service with Memory Express for components over the years (though never bought a full build from them). I would recommend reaching out to them.
I'm more interested in just who puts only two RAM slots on what sounds like a standard Micro ATX (9.6"x9.6") board when there's more than enough room for four...

Even Mini ITX conforms to the ATX spec enough that you can call it "ATX" without it being too much of a lie...

thats due to the bottom of the barrel chipsets
amd axxx
or intel hx10

those only support 2 dimms max, but atleast dual channel mode for their 2 slots

ex. intel h610
https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/products/sku/218829/intel-h610-chipset/specifications.html
# of DIMMs per channel = 1

On many of those cheaper MicroATX Boards with 4x DIMM slots, you generally wouldn't be able to use all 4 at the same time with higher speed RAM anyways; such as DDR4-3600 for example. Often times it's forced to run slower RAM speed when populating all 4 slots; such as 2933/3000/3200

So as long as you install enough RAM into the 2 slots, you should be fine.

A lower tier chipset such as H610 for example just is not going to be a good choice for high end i7/i9 CPUs or for Over-Clocking. Otherwise it should be fine.

I would still contact the builder right away. If their website is saying one thing (look at your receipt as well) and you are receiving something else, that's definitely not good business practice and they need to be made aware of it and have complaints filed if needed. If you are unhappy with the system within a few days of testing, request a return + refund (wipe the whole drive before shipping it back) and either do a different build or buy from some place else.

Thank you i have tried several times to advise Memory Express, sent serial number for the board.

No reply, no reaction to being told about the 2 dimm slots. Not sure about return, so far not acknowledge that there is a problem. Will try again. thanks

How are you contacting them? Should be filling out an RMA here: https://www.memoryexpress.com/Policies/Returns.cm.aspx
I bought one of their pc's that was supposed to have a b550m motherboard msi 4 dimms etc. It did not. Fact is I can not find a 2 channel on MSI's site. do not really want to return the computer and they dispute as of today that they sent the wrong MB. I i emaild pics to their Calgary online sales . Why RMA when it works but is not as represented ? This is all new for me. thks

The choices basically are:

Keep the PC and move on.

File a claim with the Retailer explaining the PC is not advertised. Since you bought a whole PC build from them, in order to address any problems like this you'd need to ship back the whole PC. Which if they are good company they should work with on that and such. They can't just exchange the Motherboard alone. Plus that would mean you'd be responsible for swapping out the parts which doesn't make sense on a prebuild PC
The b550m is a micro atx motherboard, if it was full size atx it would have been listed as b550.
Yes if was just B550 (non M)
That would be ATX which is approx 9-9.5 inches X 12-12.5 inches
