Upgrading cpu but keeping the current motherboard advice?
i'm thinking upgrading my i7 12700K to a i7 14700k but worried if my current motherboard will support the i7 14700K.

you literally linked to the page with the answer

Why...
12700K is perfectly fine CPU and won`t be rendered obsolete for quite some time.

Not for a few years. 13th and 14th gen have not exactly been a quantum leap, more like a filler series.

When it stops doing what you want? What kind of question is this? How the heck do we know? Only you know this answer.

If you're asking to upgrade just because a new CPU released then the answer is always "heck no!" Because that's a waste. Very little difference between 12th and 14th gen, other than more ecores. Maybe slightly higher ram speed.

Other than that, extremely underwhelming upgrade and a huge monetary waste.

I get people saying my cpu is mid and can't run games at decent performance on a 4080.

The 14th generation uses the same architectures as the 13th generation. The only difference is that they have more "efficient" cores, so the cache is also bigger.

They are dumb posers who don`t know what they are talking about.

Maybe its my 4k 60fps gsync monitor that gives me bad performance

If you do go that route make sure that board is updated before dropping that chip in the socket particularly the bios.

other way around
even is new, odd is more efficient for same previous gen socket

Then what was the point of your OP?

Before any upgrade learn how monitoring tools work and what the numbers mean. Also what the difference in specs between models mean. If you do that then you will know when the right time is.

Do you understand how to tell which component is the performance bottleneck?
