SATA (Non-M.2) SSD options
What are some good, and tested, performance SSD's have you ran into?

I don't know much about them and seek some guidance on a good brand you have used that is dependable.

Thank you very much and have a great day/evening.

Most branded SSDs are capable of maxing SATA's bandwidth.

Samsung QVO 870 and EVO 870 being some of the best cheap drives you can get.

Also there is TeamGroup, Crucial, WD, Silicon Power

I've mainly been using Samsung 860 and 870 series along with WD Blue and not a single issue in years

Pick the cheapest or your favorite from the high end SATA category.

Neither of those drive are typically cheap for what they are. And the QVO is not a performance drive regardless.

Of course this does rely on pricing. I'm going on recent pricing for the US SATA market (which I realize is not the world market by any stretch).

Samsung hasn't been price competitive in the SATA market for a while now. Their low end drives are often close in price to high end alternatives, and their own high end drive just cost even more. By contrast, they are more competitively priced in the M2 market and make a better choice there at times.

Where I live a QVO in price is in the same range as comparable drives. Cheaper drives are maybe 10 euro cheaper for a 1TB model, I'd prefer spending that 10 euro extra on a drive which I know will perform over throwing a dice on a no-name which may not.

Both the QVO 870 and EVO 870 will max a SATA interface. The only downside of the QVO is write cycles, but for a normal home user this matters not, for them these drives will still outlive the average HDD by at least a decade.

Even Samsung 850 and 860 EVO maxed the sata interface just fine. Just not as high on AMD systems compared to Intel.

Also the QVO slows to hard drive-like write rates if you fill the cache. But that's something like 64GB so you have to be writing a lot of data to it at once for that to matter.

When I first set up my new PC and copied a couple of terabytes of files over from the old PC to my new QVO drive it was obvious when the cache filled up because the disk write rate would drop by about 75%.

I can recommend the Crucial MX500.
It's speed was higher than advertised. Also it is still reliable after a few years (a friend of mine have it now).

I think we have an MX500 in my girlfriend's Windows PC. That's also been working without problems for a few years.

SAMSUNG EVOs are very good. Corsair (if you can find them) are also very good. VisionTek is okay.

There are numerous alternatives that are not "no names" though. Samsung itself doesn't exactly have a perfect track record when it comes to avoiding issues anyway.

In either case, the QVO is not a fit for what the OP asked for, which was a performance drive. Sequential speeds do not entirely determine a drives performance. SATA is a low enough limit that many drives can peak there, yes. The QVO is not a performance drive because it does that. It lacks DRAM and it's QLC. It's a low end offering. It's fine for what it is, but OP is asking for something it is not.

The Evo may be a fine match however, pricing dependent (if OP gave locale or where they buy, we could make a better informed choice here).
