remove the new ram, boot to bios, disable xmp
install the new ram
boot to windows
grab cpuz, run it
check the spd tab
select each dimm, and look at the xmp profiles

find compatible speeds/timings/voltage that will work with all dimms

speed can be slower, cl and other timings can be higher

if you need help, run an instance of cpuz for each dimm, and select each dimm and post a screenshot
Hi I was told to reset my cmos so I took the battery out ect put it back in and now my pc starts up with both sticks of ram in their slots but shows no signal on my monitor please help
some boards removing the battery will reset bios/cmos

its better to use the jumper to do that, look for clr_cmos or similar jumper, and short it for a few seconds with a screwdriver
dose the same as booting to bios and selecting reset to defaults

but all you really need to do is disable xmp for the other ram profile that is incompatible with the new ram, that is preventing it from booting
Some motherboards can train memory on the first boot what can take forever and there is no display until it’s done.

I almost had a heart attack when my new PC wasn’t posting. In some extreme cases it can take few minutes.
I’m not saying it’s the case but it might.
If the RAM is not the same kit, yes, the advice to turn off XMP is proper and to leave it off. CAS has to match but the MHz doesn't matter when mix n' match but cannot use XMP - the default is to use the slower MHz RAM spec..

The only time different kits can use XMP is when MHz and CAS outwardly matches up in totality, but even then XMP can fail although the PC would simply turn off XMP in that issue and reboot.

Problem is I can’t even get on the bios menu now 🤦‍♂️

I don’t think that is my problem as I’ve had it say there for around 20 mins before trying something different

thats why you use the jumper to reset it
or remove the new ram, so it can boot to bios, and just disable xmp

Resetting BIOS will disable XMP and resort to defaults which is SPD = AUTO.

If you have 4 slots, looking at the Motherboard upright with CPU to the left of RAM DIMM slots, populate slots 2 and 4 when using only 2x RAM and see how it does on AUTO.

If the RAM are not a match in specs then XMP usually will not be an option that will work reliably
