AMD-8350 vs i7-4790k
Which one is better for streaming and gaming at the same time on the same computer?

The intel i7 4790 no contest
Proof: http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Core-i7-4790K-vs-AMD-FX-8350

CPUboss isn't really that great ... for STREAMING Gameplay the AMD actually is pretty much on par with the intel...

AMD actually beat intel (37xx) as far as streaming goes on most games... i haven't seen a streaming comparison on the 47xx vs the AMD ...

thank you for all the information

Both are good for streaming but i7 is much better CPU for gaming and much more future proof.

Intel i7. It offers a better performance for almost 3x lower power draw. The only where the AMD can be sub-par are games requiring a lot of cores. Otherwise no, you will also require a far better motherboard (translate this as more expensive) for that AMD.

I don't know why I'm browsing hardware threads, maybe to see what people are saying about Catalyst Omega, but I just recently purchased an fx-8320 8-core, upgrading from a Phenom II x4 and it's a huge difference in gaming. I didn't even think it would be. This is where real world test often tell a different story. I was gaming alright before at 1440p, some games I would hover around 45fps with settings I wouldn't budge from for quality reason like Battlefield and now I get a sold 60fps. Same with Metro 2033, far more consistent. Same for games like Wolfenstein that actually use the 8-cores.

I can tell you about high level concepts, but I'm not nerd enough to explain to you why all my games are running so much better, including games like Assassin's Creed 4 that I had given up on and assumed were Nvidia optimized games.

I'm sure benchmarks'll tell you Intel is better and clock-for-clock they are from what I hear, but seeing as how I'm running everything super smooth with a FX-8320@4ghz, 7970 at 1440p@60fps I don't see why it would matter how much faster I can get than as fast as you can get.

By the time it matters and hopefully it won't be for a long time, I'll just upgrade to something else that's cheap, but also a great value.

what board was the pii in?
if its was a am2/am2+ or am3 with 600 or nforce chipset it would be much slower than it could be in a 700 series chipset with ddr3

going from one of those to a fx 970/990 chipset would be a huge difference
as big of a jump from the fx/pii (in proper chipset) to a current i5

The only difference is I'm using 2400mhz ram now. I used my old1333mhz for like a week because my new ram had a bad stick, but otherwise in real gaming performance you can't tell the difference. Maybe if I was counting frames I'd notice Battlefield or Metro was 3 or 4 frames slower, but it's only in benchmarks you see huge differences.

I'm on a 970 Asus board now after selling my old Biostar 870 chipset board. I should have tried the Phenom II in that board, but I didn't have enough thermal paste to be playing around. Supposedly my motherboard and cpu shouldn't even support 2400mhz ram, but under all circumstance I find it runs better at stock for games. Only for benchmarks does running with slower speeds and tighter timings make a difference.

Both 1150 and AM3+ are dead end as Intel and AMD would release new socket in the new CPU.
If you are on budget, go for AMD. I have both i7 3770 and FX 8370, per my experience, if you run a lot of background process, AMD performs pretty good.

the am3 socket is dead (unless you consider a 2+yr old cpu current)

1150 is still current until intel releases the next socket

Broadwell-K is going to be 1150, so yeah, not dead. Otherwise the 9 series chipset would've been pretty much useless.

.

Close to my set up FX8350 @ 4.4ghz 42c under load and R9 280x aka 7970ghz. All my games play smooth at high / ultra 1080p, some games climb to 350fps with v-sync off vs my older PII 200fps in same game.

Ya intel is better but not by as much as some portray and or necessarily.

Cost = FX 8350 $155, 990FXA-UD3 2 pci e lanes @x16 $95, R9 280x $250, CDN before tax.
