If I want to upgrade my Fx 6300- whats the next step up?

Looks like ive hit a dead-end and as much as I kept avoiding from going to an Intel system I feel like ive no other choice.I had Fx 6100 Bulldozer, Fx 8350, a10 6800k, A10 7850k, Fx 9370, and now my Fx 6300 Truth be told out of all of them I liked my 7850 k the most for some reason, My games ran almost exactly the same which brings me to my point do I get a i7 or i5 if I wanna do a multi-gpu system? Ive heard and read the i7s are a must if you wanna do sli or crossfire system.

I kinda miss having my 8350 so iam itching to pick-up another one lol,I dont use that many cores but its just cool to have you know? The Cpu I wanna get is the Devils canyon i7 4790k I think its called? That and Asus Maximus Gene to support 2 high-end Video cards.

What do you think? Amd Fx 8350 @ $150 or 4790k @ $279?

only upgrade is to overclock
will take a decent mobo, 4+1 with vrm heatsinks (check link below)

spending over $150+ for the 8350 will gain 2 cores (1 module)
most games do not use over 4 cores anyway, gain will be useless
9000s will need a very good mobo (4+2 or better vrm config)

I have no idea lol, I guess I wanted to try and see if theres a diffrence?

This couldnt be any more True lol! I like what they have done with the Apus but the Fx was a step back from the Phenom II - And thats just retarded I swear! I think I decided iam going to keep this system and get a i7 4790k as well ( Devils canyon ) I read-up on it and I like the features intel put into that Cpu.....Turbo will go up to 4.4ghz, with some overclocking and a good cooler iam hoping 5ghz is within reach.At MicroCenter they have the 4790k for $279-my other choice was the Fx 9570 for $220 but iam going to skip Amd this time around. The motherboard i really like is the Z97 Asus Maximus Gene-I can run 2 high-end cards,does anyone know if I can fit my soundcard in there as well?

A alternative to upgrading is to overclock BUT you've gone through so many CPUs already I was worried that you'd been breaking them and that's a bad habit.

Overclocking will need a good motherboard & 3rd party perforamcne CPU cooler as well as good case ventilation.

Lol trust me ive done my share of overclocking on my other Cpus, I havent really tried to push this one I really dont need to be any faster then it already is so iam using the stock clocks and heatsink running 3.5 ghz- 3.8 turbo. The board I have now is utter Crap so i wont even attempt an overclock on it, Asus M5A78L M. Ive been debating which Motherboard to get for this system I like the Gigabyte 990Fx ud3 but I dont like the old-school Bios on it, iam not comfterable overclocking on that board so ill probb just get a Sabertooth or Formula-Z yet Again! The formula-z was by far my best board ive ever owned.

Or...... I leave the system as is, and go for a New Intel build starting from Scratch/!....The AM3+ socket is pretty much Dead at this point in time.
