[solved] asrock z77 extreme 4 (dead ?), i5-3570k, hyper 212 evo
my 'problematic rig' is based on intel i5-3570k, coolermaster hyper 212 evo, asrock z77 extreme 4 mobo, 2x8gb ddr3-1600 gskill, evga nvidia 650ti 1gb gddr5, 1tb seagate sata3 hdd, antec hcg 620w, win 8.1 pro, coolermaster haf 932 advanced pc case.

i have not done any overclock. computer set was assembled about 1 year ago. windows 8 retail was installed at around the same time. seldom used.
afaik, no bloated capacitors were seen.

problem now: computer wouldn't power on. (no error beeps)

antec hcg 620w when used in another computer set is confirmed to be working.

i have swapped confirmed working psu like silverstone 500w, seasonic 520w S12II, seasonic 650w M12II, swapped pc case, taken out mobo from pc case and running it bare (with or without nvidia gpu) and it would only power up once in a blue moon.

i tried using pc case power on button, swapped 'power on switch' with 'reset switch', powering mobo thru asrock mobo's power on button to no avail.

i think the asrock z77 extreme 4 is dead/dying.

if i was not mistaken, mobo was bought roughly 2 years ago in newegg u.s.a. and sent to me in the philippines.

if asrock would honor its 3-year warranty, i would still be out of luck because of freight charges to u.s. and the waiting period.

A. am i correct in thinking that the mobo is dead/dying?

B. what should i do/buy?

asus p8h61 cheap boards can be bought at a nearby city after about three hours car trip.
'affordable' and available z77 boards include asus p8z77-vl k and asus p8z77m-pro and can be bought at a big city after an overnight sea trip.
afaik, no asrock z77 extreme 4 from local vendors (nearby city and big city).

i can look at more z77 selections at the capital which is about 2 hours by plane but the cost of travel is prohibitive.
i don't trust online sellers in the philippines.

my sister is coming home in about 6 months time. she can buy another asrock z77 extreme 4 from newegg again for about 130$ (though i'm no longer trustful of asrock at this point)

i'm not really a gamer but i let my nephews play in my i5-3570k whenever they come to my place. they will surely come for a quick visit this christmas.

(my 'main rig' is an intel i3-530, stock hsf, intel dh55tc mobo, nvidia 9800gt 1gb ddr3, 2x2gb ddr3-1600 gskill at 1333mhz, 1tb sata hdd seagate, seasonic 650w M12II psu, win 8.1 pro, antec 100 pc case.)

(my 'alternate rig' is an intel g630, stock hsf, ecs h61h2-m12, built-in intel hd gpu, 2x2gb kinston value ram, 1tb seagate hdd, generic 700w psu, win 8.1 pro plus ubuntu 14.04, generic pc case.)

It sounds like you have been thorough. It might be a long shot, you could try changing the cmos battery. Possibly a loose bios chip.

The CMOS battery has nothing to do with the board power / booting up. All that would occur is the BIOS not saving the saved settings after the power is completely cut-off from any sort of stand-by mode. Such as removing the power cord fully or turning of the main PSU switch for pretty much any length of time.

Without a CMOS battery, the board should still be able to power on and operate fully and normally.

In the future I would suggest ASUS based motherboards; as due to where u reside, ASUS would be easier to deal with.
